As a rattling ghost-train ride through sewers and derelict houses even David Lynch would think twice before exploring, the film toot-toots its way around at often deafening volume, but settles for doing only partial justice to King’s epic ambitions. It is essentially two movies. The better by far (and it’s very good) is the one that feels like a darker Stand by Me — a nostalgic coming-of-age story about seven likable outcasts riding around on their bikes and facing their fears together... I can't believe how much i loved and enjoyed this film. The script is very well written, the atmosphere is both bright and dreary, the scares are inventive and acting is great: these kids really have strong futures ahead. Bill was fantastic as Pennywise, although not as memorable as Curry,I can't believe how much i loved and enjoyed this film. Bill was fantastic as Pennywise, although not as memorable as Curry, it's definitely a better, more frightening performance. The use of CGI in the film is done well... so well that i had trouble knowing what was practical and what wasn't. The girl who played Beverly was the standout performance, putting on the strongest front when with the boys while having to hide the darkest pain. Finn Wolfhard cracked me up as Richie, Jack Grazer did a great job playing the fast talking mummy's boy, Jeremy Ray Taylor as Ben (the new kid who's bullied for his weigh) had me sympathising with him the most. Lastly, shout out to the actors who played the bullies, they were almost a frightening as Pennywise. I f*cking hated Henry. I also f*cking hated Beverly's creepy pedo Father. Whoever said "they start recycling cliched horror monsters of yesteryear" obviously has no clue about IT. Someone else said "Lacks the Chemistry, wit and production of the original"...Is that a joke?… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Beyond one of my favorite horror movies. I grew up watching the mini Series from the 90s and always just loved the story and characters. I wasn’t expecting this to be soo well done and good. Bill skarsgard’s pennywise is one of the best villains to come on screen in the last 10 years. He’s so creepy and imo blows Tim currys pennywise out of the water. All the kids play their characters so well. The score is amazing. I’m glad it wasn’t just a horror movie and can make you laugh, jump and cry. Every emotion I felt while reading the book I felt in this movie which is hard to find these days for book adaptations… Expand

It is a really good adaption of the book (minus the orgy thing of course). However, what a lot of reviewers seems to misunderstand, is that this isn't just a horror movie.

It's a coming-of-age thriller with supernatural elements. The purpose of the scares isn't to scare you, but to cater toIt is a really good adaption of the book (minus the orgy thing of course). However, what a lot of reviewers seems to misunderstand, is that this isn't just a horror movie.

It's a coming-of-age thriller with supernatural elements. The purpose of the scares isn't to scare you, but to cater to the fears of each individual kid in the losers club.

With that being said, there are some genuinely unnerving scenes in the movie, but it has it's focus on the characters themselves, where the focus should be.

As for Pennywise, it's hard to compare Curry and Skarsgaard, as they depict two wildly different variants of the infamous clown. Curry was the creepy child molester type and Skarsgaard is just plain frightening.

The movie has great cinematography and a good flowline of time, as well as great dialogue and acting. The one thing that may be slightly annoying for some, is that some of the scene to scene scares, doesn't always seem to stick with the kids.… Expand

With the right amount of suspense and scares, as well as an emotional story at its core, "It" brilliantly captures the horror in Stephen King's classic book.

As someone who dislikes 95% of horror films nowadays, I was very pleasently surprised with It. The film uses pychological horror rather than jump scares and it's effective in all the right ways. The sequences where Pennywise is tormenting each kid with their biggest fears where all very wellAs someone who dislikes 95% of horror films nowadays, I was very pleasently surprised with It. The sequences where Pennywise is tormenting each kid with their biggest fears where all very well realized. Speaking of the kids, they where all great. It's also an 80's coming of age movie as well as a horror film, and the 80's feel to the film was another huge plus. All the kids did fantastic jobs and they felt like real kids with real dialogue. The more the film goes on the more you get attached to them and care about them when certain clown peril comes later on. Overall IT was a fun ride in the cinema, especially for me who dislikes most horror films. Bring on Chapter Two!… Expand

This movie is very limited, given that it alludes to being a slight adventure story, like with Stand By Me or Stranger Things, this is one long jump-scare, drawn out. And this would be the horror masterpiece? Precisely, I'm not a lover of horror, but I recognize masterpieces in all genres, lulled by a soundtrack that keeps everything suspended. NOT HERE!
