A well-above-average ho-ho-ho-horror film with a shivery sense of winter weirdland and anarchic ultra-violence, it’s also a strong candidate to become a holiday favourite thanks to a perfectly judged punchline.
Dougherty's effects team is top-notch, and the movie takes unexpected chances with the style and the storytelling — including a beautiful stop-motion interlude.

One of my top 5 favorite horror movies of all time. It had great acting performances and a great story. The visual effects and animatronics were spectacular.

One of the most scariest movies of the entire year among Unfriended, The Visit, Insidious Chapter 3, and Crimson Peak. The Practicality, the atmosphere, and the story is riveting.

Krampus isn’t especially scary, but it generates goodwill nonetheless for treating its home-invasion-for-the-holidays setup with an appreciably straight face.
The film's lack of terror might be more forgivable had it embraced its more humorous inclinations, but the script’s pedestrian liberals-vs.-conservatives, boors-vs.-yuppies conflicts rarely result in anything laugh-out-loud funny.
While the violent sequences are very effectively staged, the results are a strange hybrid that doesn't quite work. Lacking the antic, witty humor of something like the similarly conceived Gremlins or the full-out gore of a traditional horror flick, Krampus never really finds it niche.
At the center of the film is a conservative lesson that asks us to unquestioningly abide by society's capitalistic impulses.
No one has been too naughty to be subjected to this reindeer poop.
This film has become a Xmas tradition now in my household and I happily watch it a few times each December.
National Lampoons Christmas Vacation meets Gremlins levels of horror when the Xmas Spirit dies for one **** do they!
This is mild horror, with some great practical SFX on show. We get demonic toys, evil gingerbread men, nighmarish elves and a creepy as heck Krampus squeezing down the chimney.
No blood or gore. Not any jump scares from what I remember. The horror of being trapped in a house with relatives you hate is enough to keep this going. The cast are all great, giving you equal reason to hate them AND sympathise with them. A fantastic addition to the "Xmas Horror" subgenre.

‘Krampus’ is so beautifully shot that certain shots, even years later, have been stuck in my head. The colours perfectly fit the holiday despite the unfortunate terror that lies ahead for this family. One of the longest nights of Christmas eve. The sound work as well is really detailed and rich, which is something I didn’t expect.
Still, it’s a goofy horror movie that doesn’t quite stand next to the greats, in terms of other Christmas movies, but am weirdly drawn to horror movies set around Christmas, because surely nothing bad can happen on Christmas.

This movie is bad. It starts off decent but gets worse and worse as the movie processes. Furthermore, the ending is terrible. Krampus is overall a bad movie.

Krumpas is nothing but a big mess of a horror/comedy set during the Holidays. All though the cast is good and a few jokes do hit the mark, The majority of the film is nothing but a joke. From unlikeable characters, to unscary villains, the film faces major problems in the character department. The script is nothing to wright home about and I felt the direction was just confused with what it wanted to be.
