I honestly loved this movie so much, I don't know why people have to hate this immensely. The animation style was wowing to me, smooth frames, wonderful graphics, it was outstanding! I just loved the characters, especially Marshal. I don't know why this movie is so good in my opinion, but others need to give this as much love too. People have worked so hard on this, but have gotten a ton of negative reviews.
I loved The Legends Of Oz so much, I watched it about thirty times, and that is not exaggerating, not a lie at all. Total truth! In my opinion, this is much better than the original, and better than other "Knock-offs".
This is, and has been the best movie I have ever seen.
Ok! First, the Wizard of Oz book by Frank Baum & Julie Garland in the Wizard of Oz film is classic & timeless ~ one that's watched time & again by each generation. The Legends of Oz animated musical film is delightful and charming. It remains to be seen how the kids will react & whether the film stands the test of time. I say that because we [the writer and several of her grand-mother or older gal friends] attended an afternoon show & there were No children watching the film -only about 1 dozen attendees. The gals & I LOVED the animation & melodious musicality of the movie! It will catch on & there should be lots of children seeing it this weekend.
The music by Bryan Adams, songwriter/composer, pinned for the film is Great -- I think the kids will particularly like the song & animation of the Happy song, "Work with Me!" & of course, the journey through Candyland will be loved by the kids.
The animation process & effects for the characters of Oz (i.e., Tin Man, monkeys) are amazing. I enjoyed listening to the talented singing voice of Lea Michele's & she really got into the role of Dorothy's character.
This grownup Loved/enjoyed the wonderful stellar, talented voices of Megan Hilty & Hugh Dancy, both in their solo performances & as the 'China Princess & Marshall Mallow' singing their Beautiful duet song, 'Even Then'.~ sigh :-)
Martin Short really shines as the Jester don't you think; & kudos go to the costume designing for the Jester -- Patrick Stewart is also great & appealing to the little ones as Tugg the Tugboat!
The gals thought the movie was very 'cute' & well suited for young children to see -- lots of laughs & chuckles made in the journey through candyland -- all of them will tell their kids to take their grandchildren to see it.
Personally (& at my suggestion) we All agreed, over cups of Hot Tea, to give it an A+ on being a positive role model with high marks in educational values to be discussed w/the kids. Some of the values we talked about were: 1) the good Vs evil; the "work with me" attitude in helping one another, 2) a reiteration of helping those in need of a brain(education); of courage, & heart (scarecrow/lion/tin man) & 3) it connects the dots to people in Dorothy's Kansas; e.g., the Jester & the appraiser abusing governmental powers, et al.
One reservation perhaps could be for parents to be cautious about their young 3 to 4 YOs seeing the film ~ the mean flying monkeys battle in 3D might be too scary for them.
Although the Top Box Office attendance stats were not as great as other films at this point (about $3.7M), I do think it will do Very Well, especially in DVD sales for home viewing.
TOYS: I think the Jester, Toto, Tin Man & Marshall Mallow plush toys will do well; & I believe the Hotest item will be the fashion Singing Dorothy Doll w/cute cowboy boots, et al- especially since she sings the Happy song "Work with Me" from the movie. Like Dorothy, let’s think positive & remember, "There Will Always be a Rainbow when One Needs it Most"
This is one of those movies that parents will have to ask themselves if they love their child enough to sit through it. At least "The Nut Job" is off the hook as the worst indie-made animated feature of the year.
This is mythology that’s famously transportive in every sense, but the animators struggle to take us anywhere truly captivating, or even clearly defined.
It’s simply tacky consumer product that dishonors the famous name in its title—the same one that’s keeping this film from the direct-to-video burial it deserves.
James Franco, all is forgiven. His woebegotten “Oz: The Great and Powerful’’ is practically a masterpiece compared to this eyeball-gougingly ugly, charm-free animated musical sequel.
This movie was GREAT. My whole fmaily loved it, myself (35) husband and 2 boys. The whole theatre was clapping at the end because the story was so great. Kept you engaged every minute. Music and characters are great. A must see for families! P.S. its not supposed to be a remake but rather a sequel!
Took the whole family to see the movie for Mother's Day. Kids absolutely loved it. Fun family movie that had some amazing visual effects. My 8 year old wants to see it again. I think seeing it in 3D was huge. They scene when Dorothy first lands in Oz was amazing.
This movie definitely does not have a development to match what "The Wizard of Oz" stands for pop culture. Where to start? Well ... Unimpressive songs, relevant characters from the original work being poorly exploited, new characters that do not attract attention, poorly developed script, great cast being wasted, bad direction ... "Dorothy's Return" maybe even catch the attention of little children, but hardly an older person will have patience for this film.
Surprisingly Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return got a theatrical release. Nothing in the film’s quality suggests that it would’ve gotten anything above a direct to DVD/Netflix release. The film is lazy. The story fails to provide any interesting take or insight on an Oz adventure consisting of elements from superior and more engaging films like the classic The Wizard of Oz, the not as well known Return to Oz and even Oz the Great and Powerful. The film borders on obnoxiousness at times with some terrible puns and songs that range from bland and forgettable to ear crashing. It never reaches a level of unpleasantness but there’s no point to seeing it. The trio is annoying with their new gifts are useless until the plot needs them and most of the new characters range from eh as they lack anything interesting and/or usefulness. The animation isn’t terrible with some character models and backgrounds looking nice but at times the whole thing is cheap. Put this on for the kiddies but otherwise skip it.
just saw this the other day and i'm like "Why the hell am i here?" this movie doesn't feel like the original at all. it feels a lot more like a spoof. what can i say? did i enjoy it? no, i was bored outta my mind! it takes every cliche from other animated movies and sticks with them, and to make it worse is that the jokes are stupid and not funny. i might've chuckled like twice in this movie, and i mean it. this movie was just NOT funny. and the characters in this movie are flat too. now, i really gotta ask this: how can you take the memorable characters from the original 1939 Oz movie that we all loved, and turn them into a bunch of needless, obnoxious, flat and dull characters? i don't know how, but they did it and they should be **** ashamed! the only positives i got for this movie is that: it's got really nice colors, they're all bright and vivid and good to look at; the pacing was handled well; some of the songs are good and it's got a nice heart. but, that's not enough to save it. the writing's terrible, the characters are flat and dull, the animation's really weak, the jokes don't land, it's not funny and the biggest problem with this sequel is that it doesn't feel like the original Oz anymore. everything we wanted to see in this movie, it's NOT here! so, if you haven't seen this movie yet, don't waste your time or your money on it. just stick with the original and REAL Oz movie.
