If you lower your sights a few pegs and go in looking for a solid, tight B-movie that builds right until the final shot, there’s a lot to like.
As a final-girl structured horror film, it has plenty of imaginative moments.

I liked it, critics don't get it they watch too much and can't just have fun with a movie anymore.. this one is great, good horror and mystery..

Despite a layer of derivative blandness with the formation of its characters and cribbing from sci-fi greats, there’s something downright invigorating about a film without loftier ambitions than providing slasher-in-space pulp.
Taken on its entertainingly trashy terms, Espinosa’s film does most of the things you want from it quite well, at least until a gotcha ending which doesn’t getcha.
As the astronauts contend with airlocks, busted equipment and escape pods, it becomes increasingly difficult to pretend that this isn’t territory where more inventive screenwriters...and stronger visual stylists have gone before.
The picture struggles to find a satisfying rhythm as the members of this multinational, co-ed team get slooshed up by Calvin or suffer related lethal mishaps.
We get a lot of hapless victims in an expensive endeavor that is surprisingly lifeless.
A bit of an interesting movie. It starts off as a rather interesting idea, but essentially turns quickly into a generic creature feature using alot of cliches and closely mimicking the original Alien movie. Some pretty good performances from the cast and some tense atmosphere building. However, the pacing is a bit off and does drag a bit at times. In terms of writing, I feel there was a missed opportunity here. The movie starts off with some great buildup and could have gone in a completely different direction. However the transition from Sci-Fi to Horror is so fast you can almost feel the whiplash. A shame.
Overall: Life is an okay Sci-Fi Horror and does it's part in that regard. But it also feels like it should have been more.

More like Lifeless, as in the plot, characters and script. Main point – even if this had been a wholly original idea, the movie would still have been a dud. As it is, there wasn’t a shred of originality in it. Think Alien crossed with Gravity, and you’ve got it. But it could have been better if (and this happens so often with ensemble, cast-die-one- at-a-time films) the players had died in a different order. Had Ryan Reynolds and Hiroyuki Sanada been the last men standing, that would have been interesting. Theirs were the only decent characters, and they were polar opposites too. Though it was Reynolds being Deadpool, and Sanada being the stoic Oriental type (Hollywood loves its stereotypes, I’m surprised there wasn’t an English psychopath in there somewhere), when things were going south in a big way, they would have made an interesting matchup in the ‘trying to get out alive’ stakes. From that point of view, it’s a shame we ended up with Gyllenhaal and Ferguson (English, but not a psychopath, you were so nearly there Hollywood) Mr and Mrs Boring. Really, I just wanted them to die. And that ‘twist’ ending – a five-year-old could have seen that coming from 20 minutes away. You’d think making a movie that turned out to be worse than the sum of its parts would be quite difficult. Not so, apparently. Life shows us once again that CGI and plagiarism do not a good movie make.
