The interesting thing is that Hiller has saved the movie without substantially changing anything in the book.
It looks to be clean and pure and without artifice, even though it is possibly as sophisticated as any commercial American movie ever made.

Love Story is a beautifully written film about two young people and their evolving relationship. It has really great performances and music throughout, and a final act that is both true to life and emotional at the same time.

It is generally successful on all artistic levels, propelled by the best-selling Erich Segal novel written from the original screenplay.
"What can you say about a 25-year-old girl who died?" You can say that her movie, though soapy, is better than her silly book.
Love Story is actually better than Segal's previously released best-seller (written from his screenplay in order to promote the film). But then that's not saying much.
Simple and passionate. Arthur Hiller attempts to create the supreme love story with flawless romance mixed with the realities of anger. They've clearly titled this one for a reason; they achieved THE Love Story.

Love Story
The conversation between lead characters is the real gem in this feature that endorses its genuine soul and hard work that went into whilst writing the script and that is what helps the audience connect this tearjerker no matter how corny and cheesy (especially its last act) it can be on other aspects of it. Arthur Hiller; the director is in his A game but their isn't much to interfere in here to this beautifully poetic screenplay of Erich Segal. Despite of having wider range, Ryan O'Neal isn't as convincing as Ali MacGraw who clearly put her heart into it that impacts strongly to the audience. Love Story is an outstanding masterpiece on terms of a 'date movie" but if accounted other things, a bit mildness into it would have added more gravitas to the emotion, characters and the feature.
