A flawed masterwork. You can see it going off track even with the added footage, but what a beautiful mess! Peckinpah more than made up for with the Wild Bunch. He got where Dundee misses right in spades!!

Juste à la fin de la Guerre de Sécession, le Major Dundee doit aller nettoyer quelques Apaches récalcitrants et pour ce faire, le voilà contraint d'engager des prisonniers sudistes (qui n'aiment pas les Yankees), des criminels divers et variés et même... des "nègres" volontaires (déjàJuste à la fin de la Guerre de Sécession, le Major Dundee doit aller nettoyer quelques Apaches récalcitrants et pour ce faire, le voilà contraint d'engager des prisonniers sudistes (qui n'aiment pas les Yankees), des criminels divers et variés et même... des "nègres" volontaires (déjà engagés dans l'armée nordiste).

Evidemment, pas de bol, je tombe sur la version "extended" du film, lequel n'avait vraiment pas besoin de ça pour assumer sa fonction de somnifère : il n'en est forcément qu'encore plus efficace ma foi ! Mais pour une fois, ce n'est ni John Wayne, ni James Stewart à la supervision de la sieste mais bel et bien le grand Charlton Heston dont le western n'est pas la spécialité première (lui, c'est les péplums de 4 heures, ceux qui vous mettent dans le coma).

En tout cas, je n'ai pas vu beaucoup d'Apaches ou alors je les ai loupés ; ou alors ils ont été avalés par l'avance rapide. J'ai surtout été bercé par d'interminables bavardages et toute une mégachiée de canassons qui courent dans le désordre. Et parfois dans l'ordre. Et pas mal de "nuits américaines" très typiques du genre. Evidemment, les Yanks donnent une correction aux Français engagés au Mexique comme dans tout western américain qui se respecte.

Tout de même, je regrette presque que ce bon vieux John ne soit pas là, lui il savait s'occuper des "peaux-rouges" entre deux ronflements !… Expand
