Everything you've come to expect from a Dolan film: the struggle with identity, the mommy issues, and a good soundtrack.

After two forgettable movies, the Canadian filmmaker seems to be back on form with 'Matthias & Maxime,' a modest film about coming out.

Dolan may have delivered one of his best performances until now. It certainly isn't something extraordinary, but you really feel the sorrow his character is experiencing throughout the movie.

Anne Dorval is just another great entry in the Dolan Cinematic Universe about troubled mothers. Almodóvar must be proud of him. Still, the film has some issues, like the almost inexistent interaction between Matthias and Maxime. I get that Dolan's story is about an individual struggle, but the fact that we don't get to see more of them together on screen is disappointing. Also, some characters don't add anything to the plot, despite the funny scenes in which they appear.

Overall, this is Dolan's best film since 'Mommy.' Go see it.

Devastatingly beautiful and poignant, the film is stylistically diverse, well-paced, well-acted, and feels heart-achingly honest. Xavier impresses once more for the rawness of his acting and directing.
