Director Ben Wheatley gives the summer blockbuster the finger, and it’s the funniest damn thing I’ve seen this year. Meg 2: The Trench is flawed to perfection; a satirical pummeling of commercial cinema and the first out of gate with a Barbie send-up.
Despite elements that threaten to drag it down into the depths, Ben Wheatley’s Meg sequel (cherish those words) battles a waterlogged script with playful pulpiness, delivering solid summer fin. Sorry, fun.

Love everything 'bout it! Loved the story, the megs, the characters; better than the first one! Will watch it again!

Statham is continually up to the challenge, kicking, punching, and fighting people and sharks alike. He’s on a run of mid-tier movies unlike anyone else in Hollywood, and once he gets going, jet-skiing around an island taking on three megs, the film finally transforms into pure entertainment.
Meg 2: The Trench is enthusiastically married to the idea that you must eat your vegetables before you get your dessert. But, really, it’s too little, too late.
The film goes from Shark Week to shark weak – from playfully amusing to just plain stupid, eliciting enough laughs in the wrong places to make an advance screening virtually interactive.
The Meg 2: The Trench loses the benefit of being an off-the-wall big-budget B-movie surprise, and it loses most of the laughs served up by the monster movie that took the summer of 2018 by surprise.
There is a big difference between a campy film that doesn’t take itself too seriously and one that is just wall-to-wall miscalculated execution. For clarity, “The Trench” is firmly in the second camp.
It's a little sad that people's brains have been so warped by "Super-Hero" films that they see every movie through this sensationalist lens and miss the forest for the tree. This is, at its core, a movie about science and how it drives us to the literal "depths" of knowledge. People who like to turn their brains off during movies need not apply because Meg 2: The Trench rewards those who who will see past the great acting and incredible special effects to uncover a humbling statement about how the power of Nature dwarfs that of Mankind.

My friend said, "The Meg 2 was Epic, but I don't want to spoil anything else for you. The underwater trenches. Would love to see a Godzilla vs The Meg. I did not go into the theater I watched it at home. The last time I went to the theater was to see EEAAO. It was interesting to see this at home, I enjoyed it. After The Meg I watched this film called....wait, there could have been a little more action in the Meg but you know they had to wrap up the story".
