I loved everything about this movie! It feels so real and powerful… is beautiful and sad at the same time. The whole entire casting was just perfect and the timeline is not confusing at all. One of the best movies of the year

Michael Grandage’s new film has been coolly received by some, but I found it an interestingly fragile and Rattiganesque melodrama of repression and regret.
My Policeman is a pretty flat adaptation as far as adaptations go, and despite some great elements in the film overall, Grandage's theatrical flair and passion doesn't show up anywhere in this movie, giving the picture an almost cookie-cutter feel to it in a way that comes off as strangely commercial.
There are enough secrets, lies and tepidly chaste sex scenes – both of the straight and same-sex variety – to fill a hundred kitchen sinks. But the resulting drama is all drips and drops, no deluge.
Well-meaning but unfortunately misjudged, this clichéd melodrama is a minor stumble for Harry Styles’ continuing conquest of cinema.
My Policeman is studied and plodding in its period-piece solemnity, a dirge of a movie about reckless people that is never warmed by their implied inner fire.
A truly fine film. My Policeman has caught a lot of flack since its release due to the casting of Harry Styles as 'Tom'. In my opinion, there are no glaring flaws in his performance and he holds up well next to the likes of Emma Corrin. Fundamentally, My Policeman is a slightly bland and misguided adaptation of Bethan Roberts' novel. The script makes strange departures from the novel and is not at all helped by the marketing of this film as a tragic love story rather than an exploration of desire. The character of 'Marion'has suffered most greatly in this adaptation, being understood as a villain rather than a victim by most viewers. If not for the focus on Styles this film would have existed as a decent independent film rather than another excuse to berate the singer's acting abilities.

Rides on the wings of Emma Corrin and David Dawson, although a better performance from Harry Styles in comparison to his last effort (Don't Worry Darling), but he still fails to bring the complexity and nuance his character begs for. The plot of My Policeman doesn't deliver anything new, and definitely nothing grand, and the genteel approach it's given only hinders it further, stripping it of the emotional core it could have delivered. The gap the alternating time jumps left is also off-putting, it leaves a big wonder as to what the characters were up during that time.
In summary, My Policeman has the makings of a beautiful movie, but the styling and approach prevent it from getting there.
