Emotions run deep and wide here; anyone who’s ever lost a parent, longed for love and acceptance, or tried to find his or her true self should easily relate. It’s a terrific film.

You’ve seen this movie before. You’ve seen it in the past month, actually: It was called “The Hollars,” directed by and starring John Krasinski. But while that film hit every clichéd note you’d expect, despite its good intentions and great ensemble cast, Other People breathes new life into the formulaic, dark comedy about death.

I had modest expectations about the movie based on the reviews, but my husband and I really enjoyed it. We thought the movie was well written and acted, and it dealt with some difficult subjects in a very realistic way. I am once again surprised with the professional and personal ratings it received and I usually complain about movies not meeting my expectations based on the reviews rather than the other way around. Give this movie a chance and see it, it is currently on Netflix in Thailand.

A charming, funny, moving comedy-drama about life's triumphs, tragedies and relationships and our search to understand them. Outstanding performances by Jessie Plemons and Molly Shannon make for engaging, sometimes-edgy, often-humorous viewing that skillfully merges mirth with pathos. A truly overlooked gem.

Other People is gentle, heartfelt, and of a delicate build. Kelly’s best observations are small but true: the touching banality of a bad pop song, and that “other people” is in fact most people, if you’re paying attention.

A typical Sundance drama that hits all the usual notes. The ending worked but a lot of the film felt like it was drudging along. I just couldn’t connect to the film.
