The film feels as finely tailored to J. Lo as the booty-enhancing pencil skirts she wears throughout the movie: Second Act’s Maya from Queens is our Jenny from the Block.
It isn’t “Working Girl” — Second Act is more earnest and less funny — but it’s a pleasant enough diversion, helped along immensely by Lopez’s warm screen presence and by a first-rate Sassy Best Friend performance by Leah Remini.

Second Act never recovers from its big reveal, a cataclysmic (and nearly catastrophic) piece of narrative nuttiness that derails every scene, every performance, every subsequent revelation.
The movie is all over the place and there is no attempt to weave it into a coherent whole — which is regrettable as scene for scene it often works.
So, there you have it, a bad good movie, or a good bad movie, but a very decent Jennifer Lopez movie.
If there are any dadaist cinephiles out there, perhaps they can reclaim Second Act as a multilayered masterpiece of illogic. Certainly the film seems destined to survive all future nuclear winters, enduring as a time capsule of humanity at its most pitiably pedestrian.
Jennifer Lopez can’t act, the meatheads responsible for the stupidest screenplay of the year can’t write, and I don’t know anybody with one hour and 43 minutes to waste in a busy holiday season, so a cinematic disaster called Second Act has nothing to recommend it, even as a temporary refuge from traffic gridlock.
There have been many great Jennifer Lopez movies that I always watch. Now, Second Act is a different story. I did not believe it. There is nothing wrong with an underdog story trying to make it big. But the movie was predictable and did not bring that good feeling of accomplishment like in many of her movies. Maybe, instead of creating something new, revisit the other titles. I would like to see a second part to Maid in Manhattan. I would love to know of they made. They tried to capture all the goodness of the other titles, but could have done better. Good Effort!

The cursing humor is not funny anymore guys.. stop counting on it. The movie is total disaster, except the cinematography, JL acting and one absolute true quote - "The only one who can stop you is yourself.", which by the way didn't really match the movie. Many contradictions in key moments in the film, like - they made the protagonist as a woman with a normal joyful life, but she is also very sad, because the thought of abandoning her child is always in her head. She sees her and wow, nothing. Also said the biggest nonsense ever, that she made good choice abandoning her, because she found good parents and it's rich. You know.. the script writer is obviously very primitive and stupid to put that stupid quote, pretending it's exalted and not selfish. Second Act - stupid, stupid, stupid, not funny, not constructive, 100% predictable, contradicting itself, superficial and boring (my mother fall asleep two time during the movie)
