Hardly a minute of the movie registers as “realistic,” but that hardly matters, since Liang so fully commits to its over-the-top sensibility that you’ll be clutching the armrest and grinning with glee for most of the ride.
Effectively the Ripley of this flight, Moretz makes a good case – again - for her ability to work an action film. Shadow in the Cloud is a fun ride through enemy territory, both human and demonic, and Moretz wields her weaponry with aplomb.
This one is bloody fantastic!!! I was prepared for a total low budget disaster, but its a hell if an enjoyable ride and a lesson in budget-constraint movie making. Great storytelling, great ideas to circumvent expensive shots yet deliver thrills and fun. Oh, and WETA made some great creature FX. Thumbs up.
Pure popcorn entertainment, superimposing the dynamic synths and narrative efficiency of a John Carpenter movie onto the burnished metal and green fatigues of a World War II adventure.
It’s a performance of compact, comical fury packed into a movie that cost what they wasted on the “Wonder Woman 1984” avocado toast catering, a little B-movie that could, headed by a pint-sized badass with “Grace” as her middle name.
In surer hands, Shadow in the Cloud could have been a demented allegory about female empowerment; instead, it’s just demented, albeit damn entertaining. Here’s hoping Landis gets his head out of the clouds and writes something that casts lingering shadows next time.
Shadow in the Cloud is an unexpected mix of World War II action, gremlin-fighting horror, and feminist themes. It's a wild ride that begins with Chloë Grace Moretz's character transporting a top-secret package on an Allied warplane and quickly descends into a fight for survival. The plane is manned by a crew of misogynistic dogs of men, and the plane itself is under attack by both gremlins and Japanese fighters. Moretz dives into her role with zeal, providing an action hero to root for as she literally beats the crap out ****. The movie's special effects are a bit iffy, but that doesn't take away from the fun of this eighty-minute rollercoaster. Max Landis's script may not be subtle, but it does send an important anti-sexual harassment message. Shadow in the Cloud won't be for everyone, but it's a great way to pass the time in these strange times.

If one is able to accept Shadow in the Cloud as the fictional, non-historic sci-fi horror movie that it is and suspends belief a bit, one can enjoy a strong performance by Chloë Grace Moretz and a genuinely good, tension-creating thriller. Just remember: It is all fictional. Except the social commentary.
This film is a too rough agenda with a flat plot. Although the main actress plays well and the special effects are acceptable. If you want to watch a quality action horror movie about strong women, take a look at the first films of the Alien and the Terminator franchises.
