It's hard to figure where it's going, and when the movie's over, it's even harder figuring where it's been. But the careening roller-coaster ride calling itself Smokin' Aces is such a hoot to be on, who really cares?
It's kind of like a hit man's Olympics. Isn't this grown-up? In a word, no, and that's what's so much fun about it.

Im a bit shocked by the low scores, I enjoyed it. I thought it featured good acting by a good cast, Great action, and a good story that featured a very satisfying ending that you didnt see coming.

Smokin' Aces is an excellent comedy action movie in the spirit of Guy Ritchie's paintings. Yes, there is not a well-thought-out plot, but the action scenes turned out to be excellent. The ending is predictable, the main twist is read in the first half of the story. And most importantly, Ben Affleck is killed here almost at the beginning of the film, but he is listed as one of the main actors)

Carnahan does have an oddball sense of comic timing; what his picture lacks in hilarity it recuperates with a well-developed, albeit mumbling, sense of the absurd.
Spends too much time straddling the line between exuberant carnage and serious plotline when it should've gleefully backflipped into the former. Grudgingly recommended, but only if you've put your cerebral cortex in neutral for the evening.
The plot tangles until it seems irrelevant, the jokes can't push through the somber tone, and the most interesting moment apart from the action scenes involves one character using the corpse of one of the more famous cast members for a grisly ventriloquist act.
Based on this outing, writer-director Joe Carnahan (Narc) can't tell a story worth a damn--especially not a complicated mishmash like this one.
A Viagra suppository for compulsive action fetishists and a movie that may not only be dumb in itself, but also the cause of dumbness in others.
A slightly above average film. If you're looking for a highly stylized, high octane, high violence movie, then you'll probably get some enjoyment out of it. Much of the writing is absurd and requires a willful suspension of disbelief to accept. Lots of great actors, all doing a great job. Actual score is probably a 5.5.

Well you know that cool moment in that cool action Crime drama where that one cool character had that interesting quirk? Well this is a movie filled to the brim with about 20 of those characters mixed in with hyperactive direction and editing. It's ridiculous and stylish but ultimately too much to sustain itself from bursting at its seams. Entertaining but flawed.

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. There is no real storyline. It's all just cursing and gunfire. The performances are bland, the scenes are vile, and the movie is one big waste of time, that appears to have been written by a hyper-active 12 year old. Avoid this movie like the plague!
