Mick LaSalle | Nov 4, 2015
"One of the great satisfactions of Spectre is that, in addition to all the stirring action, and all the timely references to a secret organization out to steal everyone’s personal information, we get to believe in Bond as a person." ... Read full review

"This is the 24th Bond film and it ranks solidly in the middle of the all-time rankings, which means it’s still a slick, beautifully photographed, action-packed, international thriller with a number of wonderfully, ludicrously entertaining set pieces, a sprinkling of dry wit, myriad gorgeous women and a classic psycho-villain who is clearly out of his mind but seems to like it that way." ... "The first act is great, full of dark portent and bravura film-making flourishes. However, the final hour disappoints, with too many off-the-peg plot twists and too many characters conforming to type. " ... Read full review

"Spectre, set up to be the Daniel Craig finale as Bond, isn’t a terrible installment in the franchise. It’s the lightest of the Craig Bonds — no sin in that. But like the end of Connery, the exit of Roger Moore and the layoff notice given Pierce Brosnan, it’s a tired, trite “greatest hits” re-packaging of stunts, chases and fights from earlier, better Bonds." ... "Perhaps some of the goofiness was intentional — you can’t always tell from this production’s wavering tone — but Spectre is full of not-good things, and some oppressively bad things that may come to feel like drill bits twirling in your skull." ... Read full review

This movie seemed to try for a little more; make Bond more human, maybe? We get a glimpse of his past, we see what makes him tick, we see that he's not indestructible. That might not be everyone's cup of tea. Some of the fight scenes seemed to go on too long, but this is an action movie so maybe I'm off base. The "Bond girl" by the description of her, should have been older, which would have been a better match for Daniel Craig, who is an "older" Bond. Guess they wanted a young actress to bring in the younger audience. Expand

Its a shame this is is last. He has tremendous screen presence and makes somehow believable what is fantastical in the Bond world

It's the usual Bond formula. Aston Martins and style every man wishes he could have. Multiple locations, one desert and hot, one cold and Alpine, Rome ( where else..perfect) ,of course London and a great single shot opening sequence from Mexico city during the day of the dead festival. 2 1/2 hours flew by.

I've heard some complaints about the new French Bond girl not being beautiful enough. I disagree and Monica Bellucci is stunning. Hard to believe she is 51.

Slight grumble about Andrew Scott who plays Moriarty so well in Sherlock. They could have done a better job with him.

All in All ..loved it..

Surprisingly campy at times, SPRECTRE delivers lots of fun action but fails to make any sense. It feels not as the epic conclusion of an idealSurprisingly campy at times, SPRECTRE delivers lots of fun action but fails to make any sense. It feels not as the epic conclusion of an ideal quadrilogy, and more like a tv season finale, trying hard to tie loose ends and raise interest for what’s next. Waltz’s villain lacks any interesting motives in his nonsensical actions, and nothing feels genuine here. It is a feature that it’s also a cannibal of its own IP: it doesn’t play on its status nor its most famous Spectre organization, but it feeds on these things just to come up with something between the action scenes. Skyfall’s sense of urgency had probably raised the stakes a little too much, and no real character development appears on this installment, no new ideas. The initial tracking shot is probably the most fascinating item on this feature, and at least Mendes has mastered his skills in Bond visuals and action scenes. SPECTRE is nonetheless enjoyable, full of classic throwbacks one might have missed (film stock!) or not missed that at all (poorly drafted female characters and villains). It’s still fun to watch most of the time, but it has very little replay value. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. An average Bond film should have been a lot better, Batista's (can't remember film name) car chase with Bond was bad should have been better. For this it is easier to refer to the characters by their real names as I can't remember character names. At first I didn't know why Christoph Waltz's character was spared at the end but then I fully understand when I realised who is character was, the white cat earlier in the film helped. Expand

It is possibly the dumbest and least imaginative movie ever made. It is also terribly boring and a terrible waste of talent. There are some respectable actors here, without a single interesting line what so ever. I hope this is a warning enough for anyone contemplating watching this abomination. Let me get back to those positive reviews. The people who wrote them should be put on trial. They are criminals, because they lead innocent people to watch this mind damaging atrocity, and they should be prosecuted. Hold them accountable I say. Unbelievable. Expand
