Can't believe I waited until now to write a review for this movie. Homecoming is a reboot done right. It's Spidey done right! The ideal adaptation of the webshooter. Another triumph for the MCU. Welcome home, Spidey!

Tom Holland is great and the way that he is handled in this film is spot on. All the other cast is solid and adds depth to Parker's High School experience. Marisa Tomei is good as Aunt May and Robert Downey Jr. is great as always as Peter's role models. Michael Keaton is good as Vulture and they do a good job of flushing out his motivations. I don't think we got the most impactful fight scenes we could have gotten but it was overall fine. Overall I thought this was a great come back for the character and I'm excited to see where they take him. A- (Isn't it stunning these are the same writers who wrote Vacation.) Expand

However, Spiderman: Homecoming fails to induce such feelings as the exuberant Tom Holland masters the role as Peter Parker in almost every way. After seeing him briefly in Captain America: Civil War and now under the wings of Marvel Studios, the introduction of Spiderman into the ever-expanding MCU proves to be an incredibly entertaining ride.
Spiderman: Homecoming is a very well directed film, as Jon Watts gives us a joyful adventure of the teenager Peter Parker who troubles to find the balance between his personal and superhero life. Still consumed by the actions he took against the likes of Captain America in Civil War, Peter Parker becomes a desperate man, hoping to join the Avengers and impress Tony Stark aka Iron Man, who acts as his mentor. It is with this mentality that he becomes entrenched into the Spiderman persona that has severe ramifications on his social life, both at home and at school. And as the nerdy and unpopular teenager, he uses his hidden persona to define his own sense of duty and morals. As seen in one of the trailers, Tony Stark chastises Peter, quoting, "If your nothing without this suit, you shouldn't have it". Tom Holland develops great chemistry with Robert Downey Jr in all their scenes, however, Tony Starks appearance doesn't shy away from the fact that this is a Spiderman film. This is a film that is grounded to Spiderman, and Spiderman only.
His high school story was very intriguing to watch, as we meet Ned (Jacob Batalon) who aids Peter Parker as his nerdy and funny best friend, Michelle (Zendaya) as the quirky, yet the lonely student who stands in the background, and Liz (Laura Harrier), Peter's accessible love interest. With Spiderman, Peter becomes less involved with the school, causing dysfunctional relationships to occur between him and many other students. Likewise at home with Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), who we see Peter become more distant with her as his agendas begin to take over.
The main villain, the Vulture, is unlike many of Marvel's villains, in that he is the most human out of all of them. He despises the rich and the powerful messing up the lives of those below them, in this case, Tony Stark and he cares deeply about his family, wanting to do everything in his power to keep them safe and happy. His backstory, seen in the opening of the film, and the effects of his actions proves that Adrian Toomes (his hidden persona) has more redeeming qualities than one might expect of a villain. Michael Keaton brilliantly plays the role, adding hidden depths rarely seen in a Superhero villain.
Overall, the action was solid, yet the film serves better as a character-driven story rather than the usual action we tend to see in other Marvel movies which may disappoint some fans. However, comic book films are about the characters and Spiderman: Homecoming accomplishes that extremely well. Tom Hollands gifts us with a great performance of the crime-fighting, friendly neighborhood Spiderman, accompanied by a great villain acted superbly by Michael Keaton, and a host of secondary characters that really complete a very well written film.

A fun, colorful and energetic superhero movie that feels rather fresh. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' is one of the best "Spider-Man" movies in a while, just a step below 'Spider-Man 2' (2004) and 'Spider-Man' (2002). What makes this movie work is Tom Holland's young and cheeky performance we see as the teenage hero of whom we got a glimpse of when he debuted in 'Captain America: Civil War' (2016), and now here he is, leading his own battle. We see that he faces the challenge of trying to live a normal, teenage, high school life, while at the same time, coping with being a street-level superhero, especially since Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is his mentor. He waits and waits for Tony to notify him for a mission so that he can become an avenger, but time passes, and not a single ring on his phone. He lives quietly with Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), who has no idea that he is Spider-Man, and hangs out at school with his rather dimwitted friend, Ned (Jacob Batalon), who, if you saw the trailer, you'll know that he finds out that he is Spider-Man... it even happens early on in the film, so it's not really a spoiler. The movie's main villain is Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton), who becomes the "Vulture". Keaton is fantastic as the main villain, and is probably the most memorable Marvel villain since Loki and/or Ultron. Watching Peter living the double life of trying to be a hero and being a teenager is something we haven't seen since 'Spider-Man 2' (2004), the idea that he has to juggle and balance his life out so things could work, but nothing goes according to plan. This is something we need to see more of, as that is what his character is about. Nobody knows his identity, and he needs to remain level-headed since he's so young. Many may be concerned that Robert Downey Jr's "Iron Man" character is involved too much in the film, as the trailers and promotional marketing will show, all I can say without spoiling too much is that there is no reason to fear. Downey has about as much impact on this movie as Jared Leto did in 'Suicide Squad' (2016), but if you want my advice, do not watch all the trailers if you haven't already. There are some key cameos that are spoiled, and maybe on or two plot details. The cameos by other actors are funny though, if you don't see them coming. I will admit that there are too many references to the MCU, as obviously, this movie is trying to state that this is the MCU's version of Spider-Man, and not another stand-alone reboot. At times, the references can bog the movie down a little, as it seems it cannot stand on its own. I thought Zendaya's character was rather pointless as she is only in it for about a total of 10 minutes, and her character is rather bland and not so memorable. Other than that, I had a blast with this movie. I think that director Jon Watts did a capable job of crafting some really good action sequences, and that it shows that this is where the character belongs. However, with some things, you can tell that this is a product of two different studios, it's clear that producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal had different ideas that both tried to get in this movie. At times it worked, and then, it didn't. Go and have fun with this movie... it is the "Spider-Man" movie Marvel fans have been waiting for. Expand

To start out, I really enjoyed Michael Keaton's adaption of The Vulture, he plays the character so well and so brilliantly as he goes from psychotic madman to sympathetic father. Tom Holland was solid if not okay, thought i still prefer Andrew Garfield's adaption to his I found his performance as Peter/Spider-Man to be commendable. Nothing against Holland but with Holland's adaption we return to the wide eyed Tobey Maguire-ish days of Spider-Man as opposed to Garfield's version which can best be described as whip-smart and likably cheeky, with an undercurrent of teenage angst as well as a sense of arrogance which gave those movies a unique, restless, reckless energy and a welcome sense of danger. Holland's interpretation also feels too relying upon Tony Stark and almost feels like an Iron-Spider-Man than actual Spider-Man. Its the same sense that people take with Christain Bale and his interpretation of Batman. Bale's batman didn't feel as "Batman" enough to some fans, to which I agree but I got that same feeling with Holland here. Though like Bale, Holland did a fine job in the role and its not really a knock on him as much as it is a knock on the script. That being said, I did enjoy it's lighthearted tone to go along with its likable cast with Keaton, Downey Jr, Marissa Tomei and Zendaya being the standouts here. The movie is a good time nontheless, some of my main gripes with this movie is that I felt the movie was trying too hard to be something different when it didn't need to do that, it made no mention of Uncle Ben which to some can be good but Uncle Ben is an core part of what makes Peter who he is. They didn't need to show him getting shot but him going completely unacknowledged throughout the movie bothered me. With that being said, the direction is solid but the script fails it at times but the way that it undercuts some of those small, heartfelt moments for a cheap laugh just came across to me as needless. Tom Holland was surprising for me not expecting too much of him. I like Andrew Garfield more as Spider-Man and Tobey Maguire over Andrew Garfield but Tom Holland himself did a solid job. He was a bit too young as Spider-Man for my taste but that was not the problem. Certain things in the movie felt very forced and that is never a good thing for me in games or movies, no matter the direction, whether its "forcing to meet expectations" or "forcing to do something exactly different". At times it worked, and sometimes it just felt weird in the movie. Yes, Peter is in this incarnation also a troubled teen and he has to "find himself" to see that HE is Spider-Man already and yet, even if he has to find that out, Spider-Man seems TOO incompetent here. Where is his spider sense? If it is in the movie then it definitely was not shown well. And overall his abilities. Or him being afraid of a certain height being reached. It should not matter if "that is his first time". He is this guy who should not even care about such a thing. So what if he falls? He should have no problem swinging back. Same for his strength. This is kind of touched in the end "when he finds the strength after finding his inner Spider-Man" but still. He seemed like an RPG Spider-Man that was on Level 1. And it is a bit weird because I know Spider-Man, even relatively unexperienced still as ridiculously good enough simply because that is what those comic heroes are. However - it was fine. Michael Keaton as Vulture was probably the best thing of the entire movie, so was Peter's AI Lady friend "Karen". Now here's the thing: "MJ" is re-introduced. Yes, I know it is said "she is not Mary Jane" and "there are other people in Peter's life", however, well ... she is still Mary Jane. She does not like her. She does not have the same name. But of course there will not be a second character named "MJ" introduced just so we have a literally named Mary Jane Watson with read hair as romance for Peter. We already have an "MJ" who is a female "not yet but somewhat love interest". This is really nothing but another interpretation of Mary Jane after reducing her to her nickname and "potential romance". The most literal way to bring in "Mary Jane" without bringing in Mary Jane - as that will surely not happen; it would be awkward to have two Mary Janes. I guess the point can be quite gotten. Mary Jane lives on in this character. And that is just another one of these things that "are just different". I am not sure how much I like this or a very young Peter, a Flash that reminds me nothing of flash or an Aunt May that gets younger and more attractive in every movie incarnation she appears but as mentioned before, it was okay nonetheless. It was entertaining and I would say with that it did what it should do. But I would definitely want one of the other two Spider-Man incarnations as part of this Marcel CU canonicity. Still great respect to all people working on this movie. Expand

The story was fine, it was fresh compared to the other marvel movies, this was more of a comedy than a super-heroe movie, it stayed consistent but I never felt invested in what was going on...But that twist in the last third of this film was a pleasant surprise, it gave a more weight in the climax between Spider-Man and the vilain and it made me feel more invested in the story.
The problem with the story is that it has to many jokes so it does take the intensity of the scene sometimes and the humor can be hit and miss but other than that the story was a descent.

The characters made this film fun, Peter Parker is just a kid who wants to impress the guy he idolises (Tony Stark) and her love interest, he's relatable and not annoying.
The vilain was the character that surprised me, the other marvel movies rarely had a good vilain in my opinion, this vilain howether is great, you can understand why he decided to do what he does in this film and he can be intimidating,iron-man was also great, he tries to be a father figure but he is flawed so it's a difficult situation and he didn't over stay his welcome and the other characters were fun and had their moments.

I was impressed with this film, it feels like a different marvel movie and I'm really glad that I saw it, it's easily in my top 5 marvel films and it's a great summer movie.

Twists and fun action are big pluses, but fragments of anticlimactic humor and poor character development are forcefully pushing the film down. This Movie Was Spectacular, Sensational, Astonishing; The Ultimate Spider-Man Movie, Being Superior To All Others; It Has Unlimited Lines To Quote From As Well As An Amazing Amount Of References. I Hope This Movie Holds Up Till 2099.

If You Couldn't Guess, I Know My Spider-Man And This Is By Far The Best Spider-Man Movie I've Seen Since Spider-Man 2. Favorite Supporting Cast Is Ned And Karen Who Have Some Of The Best Lines. Also A Twist I Did Not See Coming. After My Second Viewing, I'm Happy To Say That I Enjoyed Spider-Man: Homecoming The Exact Same Amount Throughout (Noticing A Few More References I Missed The First Time, Having Donald Glover Play The Prowler Was A Stroke Of Genius). All In All, I Wish I Could Mark This Film Down For Something, Anything. But I Can't. This Is, Hands Down, The Best Superhero Movie I Have Seen (And I've Seen Them All). Something So Crucial Was Missing In The MCU And It Was This; A Superhero Movie Dealing With A Dual Identity. Out Of Marvel's 15 Films To Date, I Used To Be Able To Count The Good Villans On One Hand, Not Anymore, Although I Can Still Count The Villians Who Live Through Their Movies On One Hand.

"WHAT THE F***"

I had my doubts with "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and I wasn't really looking forward to it. There were something about the way it was marketed that turned a lot of people off, including me. With Tony Stark taking over half of your movie poster is pretty bad and made me worried that the movie isn't going to be all that focus. And the fact this is the third reboot of the character. I don't know why Marvel always hire indie film markers to direct these type of big budget films after one or two hits. However, after seeing John Watts previous work with "Cop Car" and "Clown", I was slightly interested.

Luckily, my fears didn't come true.

What could have been a stale and boring, since this is the third reboot, but surprising turned out to be a breath of fresh air with the new direction it took. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is more of a comedy than anything else. It took things and toned down in terms of it trying to be cinematic. I love how small the scale is. The world isn't at strike and not every superhero story needs to have a scenario where the world will literally end if the heroes don't stop it.

Tom Holland (as for right now) might be the best on-screen version of Spider-Man I've ever seen. Holland performance sells the awkward and the nerdy side to Peter. He makes mistakes and only wants to do good, so he must literally become the Spider-Man. Just to be clear, it's not doing the origin again, but taking this character in a direction that I've never seen in the other adaptations.

Michael Keaton as the Vulture was by far a much better villain compared to the previous ones. It also helped that Keaton performance was pretty terrific and the scene when he threatens Peter was pretty intense. Like, you understand his character and most of the time he isn't even in the Vulture suit. He's isn't out for revenge, just a businessman dealing with weapons and Spider-Man keeps getting in the way.

Without spoiling anything, but there's a twist in the movie that I thought was so brilliant and the way it was executed was superb. It actually did shock me and added more conflict to Peters life. How I didn't see it coming was beyond me.

The weakest elements of the film are the same with other Marvel movies, which is characters (mostly one of the Avengers) showing up for the soul purpose of setting up upcoming movies. Feels more shoehorned in than having these characters not have a presence to the story. Good thing Tony Stark and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) have characters to them and didn't drag the film down. However it still feels shoehorned in.

Just like in "Civil War", it isn't visual pleasing when it comes to cinematography and color. The movie was hilarious for the most part, although some humor was trying a little too hard for a laugh. I couldn't take the movie serious when it needed it to be.

Overall Rating: While "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is missing the heart and soul of the Raimi films, but stands on it's own as a fresh start. The writing was great, the performances from everyone was great, and did things that actually surprised me.

First,Spiderman Homecoming is a fun movie, you will get laughs and great visual effects. Tom Holland makes the character even more likeable than Tobey maguire and Andrew Garfield, but that doesn´t compensates that the movie has its flaws. First, the movie has action scenes, of course is a superheroe movie so it has to have action scenes, but this ones (except of one in the climax of the movie) are forgettable. They should have been like two or three and be awsome and unforgettable, that the movie be identify with that action scene, to be the best moments of the movie, but the best moments are with Peter Parker being a normal kid, and have teen issues. Peter´s friend is a good character, it makes you laugh for the way the character is, not because suddenly it has to be funny, is the essence of the character. Also Aunt May and Michelle are funny in the same way as Peter´s friend. The movie has great jokes but, as in all of Marvel movies, it has some moments when it wasn´t nessesary. Michael Keaton is great in this movie, his villan is understandable, but i wish i could have seen more of him. In the end, this new spiderman movie is entertaining, funny and charming at times, but it´s not the best of the character movies (the best is 2002 spiderman 2) but you could have a great time. If you´re a true Marvel and comic fan you have to stay to the post-credicts scenes, if you just like this movies but not loved them at an insane level or just want to have a good time don´t stay.

Don't listen to all the Sam Raimi fans that seem to be giving this movie a 0/10? Even if this isn't your favorite Spider-Man movie you can deny that it is still a really fun and entertaining movie and by no means deserves a 0. It has great action, comedy, story, and tie-ins to the MCU. The introduction of the superhero clean up organization, Damage Control, was also great. It finally explains who is responsible for cleaning up after all these amazing superhero fights and where all of the debris goes. Overall I had an awesome time at the theater watching this and so did everyone I went with. I highly recommend. Expand

This movie is the most lighthearted of all the MCU movies. Tom Holland does an extremely good job at portraying the comical and nerdy side of Peter Parker. The movie has a way of making you feel as if your discovering Spiderman all of again due to his new suit and gadgets, friends, and also his placement in this new universe. If you're one of those people pissed off that Tony Stark is in the movie and afraid that hell take the shine away from Spiderman, don't. Stark makes brief but necessary appearances. He's mostly like a guru to Peter. Michael Keaton brings a humanity to the vulture which makes him a more complex character. And big praise to Ned and Michelle (played by Zendaya and Jacob Batalon) who provides most of the movie unexpected comical relief. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is a good movie, Holland did an amazing job, is the fresh air that Marvel really needed.

The movie is totally focused on a familly audience, it contains so many pop / AAA story and I expected this, yes, I expected, but not too intense.

The villain is normal, Keaton did a good job but is not at the level as the typical marvel (avengers) enemies and I thought that it would be better.

The gadgets of Spiderman really annoyed me because, he lost all the naturality of his powers, it turns like a robot as Iron Man.

The good part of the movie is Tom Holland, again, Marvel (Disney) planned the cast very, very well.

Good movie, very familiar, not nothing new.

In all honestly, it's been such a while since a spiderman movie has made me feel so absolutely delightful and whole.

Spiderman is such an important character to me, being that fat kinda geeky kid i've always, much like many teenagers, been able to relate to the web head in my youth. So, when a film like this comes along, embodies what makes Peter Parker such an amazing and intriguing character and does such an absolute epic job in delivering the character, what makes him whole and uniquely himself, you know that I must have enjoyed the experience that is Spiderman homecoming. It was such a well down and well paced him. Its basically, for a comparison, reminds me so much of Batman Year One. Such a refreshing take on the webhead. I can't wait to see what else they do with the character.

I don't think any actor has embodied what it would feel like to the rest of us to have 'greatness thrust upon you'. Aside from the final line of the movie, Holland was the only reason I had to stay tuned in and it was more than enough. The scene where he enters his Homecoming date's house for the first time was captivating and it will be the part that I will remember most when this movie is years in the past. Well, that and Holland appearing in his underwear in several scenes. Holy Jonathan Tucker! Finally, the girl that I thought was right for Holland? She didn't move to Oregon. She was there beside him the whole time. How cool was it when she revealed her real name was M.J.? Yes! Expand

In successfully combining the tones of a classic Hughes-esque, coming-of-age film, and the conventional, yet appealing notes of any tried and true MCU vehicle, director Jon Watts and co. really do deliver a worthwhile time at the theater. And with the young Tom Holland absolutely killing it as both Peter Parker and Spider-Man all throughout the film, the rewards in "Homecoming" are almost boundless. Even the main antagonist - which has proven to be quite the elusive character for the MCU to get right in the past - ends up functioning efficiently and even memorably in this piece. Fantastic work all around and I can't wait for more of these to come. Expand

The new Spiderman movie I like, my favorite movie in the summer and maybe my favorite movie of the year.
I have to admit that I'm not very familiar with director Jon Watts. But he came out of here and knocked out of the park. He was given a fun show from an actor. He perfectly tone the tone. From top to bottom, he did well. I was looking forward to what he did next and was glad he came back to spider again. And when the movie had six people credited for the screenplay, it smelled of chefs too in the kitchen. But at about the end result is a near perfect credit to Jonathan Goldstein, John Francis Daley, Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers They made magic together. While I highlighted the members of the staff, I also had to acknowledge composer Michael Giacchino during this. Rogue One, Doctor Strange, and War for the Planet of the Apes.
This film is also a favorite of teenagers and new generation incredible. But there are also inappropriate content for humor and not for Spider-Man fans. Writing is very strong in this film, they leave them out and unnoticed and still love the film. this That would be an impressive writing that is rarely seen in Hollywood.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is stronger, while the character is a comic character bigger than the action movie. While parts of the action are good - the Washington Monument, rescue ferry boats, and endangered aircraft are featured - no one can compete solely on Spidey's launch of the MCU in Civil War airport combat. Which is amusing in Peter's view, the lack of a truly memorable new sequence of action may make some superhero fans thirst for food. Each has eyes But eventually the spider.
Just like the story of Marvel's best. Web-Spider-Man: Homecoming is a fantastic combination of fun superhero adventure stories.

So how's this new reboot? Well, let's just say that it's a "What if Spider-Man ('02) got weirdly married with Home Alone?" and there you have it:"Spider-Man Homecoming". Sounds interestingly cool, right? I mean, the well-done story and visual effects and,of course, the magnificent score by Michael Giacchino CAN make this movie work...But it has some flaws. First off i didn't find nothing boring in the 3rd act (like some critics are saying),but i had some issues with the story. This is a story about having your normal high school life while being your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man at the same time. A story that,of course, has subplots, that are mixed with the story in a decent way. Movies like 'The LEGO Batman Movie'did very well in mixing the subplots in such an understandable way,but in this one it's just fine, noting new or bad,not even something interesting. The rest was great. Tom Holland portrays both Spider-Man and Peter Parker in a great way,and RDJ's just there only for some exposition because of Avengers Infinity War (i guess...),and there's nothing to say about Michael Keaton as The Vulture,he was just plain fantastic. In the end,if you were annoyed by 'The Amazing Spider-Man',then maybe Spider-Man Homecoming will resolve your problems. It's a lighthearted comedy with great performances, stylish visual effects, magnificent music, some lovable action and the same old fun you'll have from a Spider-Man movie.

(SPOILERS) And the last end credits sequence? A better troll than Harambe and We Are Number One.

It finally gets so many things right that the earlier Spider-Man films did not. It's by far the most fun, most colorful, and what I'd certainly consider the most accurate portrayal of a teenager trying to juggle high school and being an often times clumsy superhero (something that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield couldn't do as easily considering they were cast as Spider-Man in their mid 20s). Seriously though, to speak metaphorically, Tom Holland really stuck the landing quite nicely in his take on the titular hero. Overall, while I found certain plot elements a bit cliche, and it's not a huge game-changer in terms of the Spider-Man films, it's still a vast improvement and yet another colorful and just plain fun addition to the MCU. Rest assured, Spidey's long-awaited debut in the MCU does not disappoint! Expand

Primarily, it's Tom Holland, who brings a fresh-faced charm to the character. He's still in high school, while working to get accepted as a superhero by the Avengers. Since he's also adolescent, he's awkward and impetuous, which gets him in several scrapes. The action sequences seem more lighthearted and the villain (Michael Keaton) is less threatening. Still, Holland's awkward spunk and endearing appeal, combined with a lighthearted script and energetic approach make this iteration enjoyable. BTW, the plot picks up after the last Captain America movie (which featured a fun cameo from Spidey), so if you didn't see it, some of the references may be lost, but the movie still works. NOTE: As usual with Marvel flix, stay thru the credits for one last gag. Expand

Spider-Man: Homecoming is by no means anything spectacular, but it works as a solid and fun Marvel film and delivers arguably the best Spider-Man flick since Spider-Man 2. Tom Holland combines the best aspects of Toby Maguire and Andrew Garfield to be the best overall incarnation of the superhero to date. The rest of the supporting cast rocks as well and Michael Keaton plays a solid Vulture. Additionally, the action sequences are creative and fun, while the comedy is some of the best from any Spider-Man film. However, the film's plot seems to be playing on repeat as the story transitions from event to event in a boring and repetitive way. Plus, the stakes appear strikingly low (like in most MCU movies) because next to nobody dies or faces the concept of death in the film and we know the character will appear in many future films. In the end, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a solid flick that finds some successes but falls under the MCU's typical problems. Expand

Are we tired of superhero movies yet? The box office returns would say no, but the ever-increasingly lacklustre reviews of each subsequent Marvel or DC movie releases would suggest otherwise.

The problem is trying to capture the spirit of the comics, translating that onto the screen, whilst also creating an interesting storyline and investing characters.
Clearly it's not easy, but S:H comes closer to this 'perfect formula' than most. Not to say it's a fundamentally flawed movie, because it is, but it's a fun journey from beginning to end and Tom Holland as 'Spidey' is by far the best on screen version we've had.

The story eschews the whole 'origin' element, and follows on from Spidey's appearance in Civil War. We're back to the idea of a character balancing his life as the dull, studious, intelligent, geeky and awkward 'Peter Parker', and his ever-increasing desire to use his prodigious abilities to help others and fight crime.

The fundamental flaw mentioned earlier stems from the notion that this would actually be possible in the modern age, something that the film makes some subtle nods toward from time to time, but also something that you really can't gloss over.
Add to this the now completely overused superhero movie tropes (the main villain being directly related to a character Peter Parker is embroiled with, amongst others) and the narrative falls apart at the end.

But, if you walk into the movie with that level of expectation, you WILL be surprised. The film does come together extremely well, it doesn't feel like it's about half an hour too long (even if some scenes do drag on a fair while), and the big action set pieces are great spectacles.
Throw in some fine acting (Michael Keaton nails his role, and is more menacing when he's not 'The Vulture' than when he's CGI'd up), decent soundtrack, a nice little set of cameo appearances from other Marvel characters, and you get something which is better than I thought it would be.

However, the Superhero genre is now getting into severe overkill levels of releases, and because of that there is a sense of 'Christ, not another one'. For me, that notion of this (or any superhero) movie just being a small part of a larger 'extended universe' diminishes it somewhat.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Some of the most fun I've had in a superhero movie. Can't believe Wonder Woman is given a higher score by the critics than Spider-Man: Homecoming. Then again, some critics believe that Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire were more suitable for the role of Spiderman. Tom Holland provides some much needed innocence and comic relief to his role. His high school friends, with the exception of Ned and Liz (to an extent), were rather uninteresting, but that was OK. They are balanced by the more interesting character of Vulture, who clashes with the innocence of Spiderman. Somehow, this movie manages to resolve these two characters, as seen in the mid-credits scene. For the most part, Spiderman gets scolded by Iron Man when he deserves it, except in the final battle. Spiderman and Vulture are fighting on the surface of a plane, and during the battle, the plane crashes into some sort of circus thing. This incident looked like it could have injured/killed dozens of people, yet no one even mentions it afterwards. Other than that, solid superhero flick. DC could learn a thing or two from these movies. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Our take: See it in theaters. The extra $2 for a 3-D showing will not be a waste.
Post credit scene? Yes, two, so just wait until that last Sony logo appears to get up and leave.

You would hope that when they do a reboot every three years they’d learn something. And they did. Spider-Man: Homecoming is a fun, fresh, and fast-paced installation and the movie we’ve been waiting years for.
Forget the doom and gloom, forgot convoluted side plots, forget Oscorp and the Bugle, forget the awkward emo dance moves — this movie eliminated it all and tucked the canon neatly into the MCU instead. Somehow, it was even able to give the newly introduced villain, Vulture, a grounded backstory in the universe. Picking up after his backdoor-pilot mission in Civil War, Holland finally gives us a coming-of-age, high school Peter Parker story we need instead of just handing us an amazing Spider-Man.
With very little exposition necessary (sorry Uncle Ben, but we’ve seen you die, A LOT) the movie was allowed to explore the character and struggles that Peter Parker has in both high school and as a hero, in ways the other films failed to (Incredibly, movies about high schoolers are so much better when you cast younger actors instead of British men in their 30s that you have to get out of high ASAP because the aging process doesn’t stop.)
Added to the mix are a sidekick (Ned played by Jacob Batalon) that often steals the show a lot of sidekick comedy, a stupid high school crush (Liz played by Laura Harrier), and an MCU caliber villain creating an instant hit for all ages. Even with the occasional plot or character stumble, the film was able to deliver an amusing and entertaining look at the new Spider-Man franchise. But
The film leaves you with a familiar feeling, and yet, it also feels completely new — it’s an increasingly delightful dichotomy and direction for these films to be heading in.

Featuring: Birdman as another … birdman. An impressive attempt to include a POC entity in every single frame of the movie, reminding us just how diverse NYC is (fun fact, not as diverse as Houston, but whatever). Also lots and lots of Star Wars references in case you forgot Disney was involved in this movie, which Sony would probably be happy you did (you can tell by the number of times Sony will be splattered on the screen).

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" is the Spidey movie we've all been waiting for. It is very faithful to the source material, and delivers the dramatic and comedic punch that "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Spider-Man 3" lacked. The film fails in the villain departement, just as many MCU installments do, but at least is played by talented Michael Keaton. His character conveniently happens to be Peter's crush dad - a clichéd plot twist that caught me off guard. Tony Stark and his former bodyguard, Happy Hogan, play a small part in the movie, but they're enough to steal some scenes they're in. Tom Hollland's portrayal of Peter Parker/Spider-Man is possibly one of the best onscreen and Marisa Toomey's Aunt May is a nice deviation from the character in the comics, but is solid - for the little screen-time she has.

The action sequences don't fail either. Most of the movie's set pieces happens to be located in Queens, New York, a small urban area with no tall buildings that Spidey can use to swing around safely. A nice touch that the writers and producers addressed, considering how none of Spider-Man's webs attached to anything in previous outputs. The comedy is adequate for a coming-of-age film, and is on par with "Guardians of the Galaxy".

The film could benefit from a better villain and a less cliched motivation, but the movie offers a simplistic story around a kid who's trying to help people. It's funny, fast-paced, and a lot of fun, and it's my third favorite Spider-Man film to date.

Final Score: 7.5/10

Before Homecoming, my favorite movie was ‘Scott Pilgrim vs. The World’ by Edgar Wright. They have kinda similar tones so yeah, I think it’s very clear I have some kind of preference.

Homecoming, by director Jon Watts, is fun. That's a big part of the movie; the humor. All the jokes land, nothing feels forced. Actually the whole movie feels very natural, even the fifteen-year-old with spider-like like powers feels natural. The friendships, the relationships, the feelings, the motivations, the consequences, either good or bad, they all feel natural. They feel real and legitimate. Tom Holland does a great job portraying Peter Parker/Spider-Man, Not only does he look the part, he can also act. But we knew that since ‘The Impossible’ (which is a great movie, by the way). He’s funny, he has the wit Spidey needs to crack jokes when he's getting beat up by thugs, and he also can make you feel sad when he’s getting beat up by life in general with his ‘Parker Luck’.

But, what is a lead role without his supporting characters?

Boring. That’s what it is.

Jacob Batalon is a scene stealer. He’s so funny as Ned, his relationship with Peter is one of the best parts of the movie; I’m glad they took a different direction with it, it feels nice to know Peter has someone to rely on, he has a good friend that supports him and helps him in any way he can. I’m pretty sure Jacob will be big some day.

Liz Allan, played by Laura Harrier, is very charming, smart and sweet, but that’s about it really, which is not bad in any way, but her character doesn’t really get much development (unfortunate, I know, Laura seems like a very good actress).

Eugene ‘Flash’ Thompson is played by the Lobby Boy himself, Tony Revolori. Now, I love Tony in everything he is in… And this is no exception (what? you thought I was about to be a racist prick?). He is great as Flash, he is a smart ass rich kid type of bully, not a dumb jock like it has always been (but let’s face it, that’s not really a thing anymore).

Zendaya is also great in the movie. She is very little in it, but her character is set-up to have a bigger role in the sequel (or sequels). She’s a weird character. If you look closely, in the gym party, besides not having a partner, she's lifting a book. Like, literally lifting. Also, in the party scene, she’s eating toast for some reason. Just a couple little details that I thought give her character a bit more depth. A bit.

The other supporting cast is really good too. The student group conformed by Angourie Rice (Betty Brant), Jorge Lendeborg (Jason) which are the two kids that give the school news, Abraham Attah (Abe), Tiffany Espensen (Cindy), Isabella Amara (Sally), Michael Barbieri (Charles) which are the kids in the decathlon team. The teacher group conformed by Hannibal Buress (Coach Wilson), Kenneth Choi (Principal Morita), Selenis Leyva (Ms. Warren), Martin Starr (Mr. Harrington).

Now let’s talk about the villains.

Michael Keaton is, debatably, the best MCU villain. He’s menacing, and to be quite honest, really scary; but you see where he’s coming from, you understand his motivations. He is not a super bad guy that wants to blow up the whole planet, he just wants to keep his business running and provide for his family; and that’s respectable. The means not so much though, that’s why he’s the bad guy. There are a couple other villains in the movie. One is the Shocker, played by Bokeem Woodbine (Herman Schultz) and Logan Marshall-Green (Jackson Brice). Yes, they are both the Shocker in this movie, and that’s fine. It’s pretty straight forward, really. There’s also a very brief appearance by Michael Mando (Mac Gargan) as the Scorpion… but without the cool scorpion gear.

In closing, I have to admit that the marketing for this movie wasn’t the best. It made it seem like Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) was a big part of the movie and that turned some people off. I get it, you wan’t this to be a Spider-Man movie, not Iron Man 4, and that’s cool, but at least wait until you see the movie to complain about something like that. Personally, I think the way Jon Watts and the other five writers (yes, this movie was written by six people) handled the Tony/Peter relationship was really good. A mentorship that worked for both of them. Peter learned that HE IS Spider-Man, either with a cool high tech suit or in pijamas. Tony has also grown as a person. He is not the same as in the first Iron Man. He’s messed up a lot of times, but he is in search of redemption and he got closer to it in this movie.

Final note, Jennifer Connelly as Karen (Spider-Man’s suit AI) was SO GOOD. The moments Peter and Karen talk are so sweet and tender.

OK. That’s it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This may be my favorite Marvel movie and is definitely my favorite Spiderman movie to date. Tom Holland has done an amazing job taking on the mantle of Spiderman. This movie had just the right amount of comedy mixed with drama, and action. The story was good, and I can't think of a character that I didn't like. It was even possible to feel empathy towards our villains. My two gripes are - the descent from hardworking blue collar men to criminals was just too quick and easy. I also wish there was a more fleshed out story/relationship between Peter and Aunt May. That's such a fundamental part of the Spidey universe, and even if they are making changes to the formula, that's one area I'd love to see as the franchise develops. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's definitely in need of some minor improvements, particularly in regards to the balance between "High School Movie" and "Super Hero Movie",and, the lack of meaningful development in many of the side characters. However, Spider-man Homecoming marks, in my opinion, a return to form for our beloved web-head.

Tom Holland makes for an interesting Peter Parker. His sense of power vs. responsibility is still being developed. He spends the majority of the first act obsessing over being an Avenger, to the point when it becomes an obsession. He's human and, as we are reminded time and time again, a "kid".

Michael Keaton is fantastic as The Vulture (Adrian Tombs). Then again, I expected that walking into the cinema. His villain has a certain gravitas that I, at least, haven't felt since Loki. His motivation is clear. You feel that uneasy sense of; "Sure, he's a bad guy, but he's doing it for reasons that, arguably, are pretty sound.".

Let's talk about the elephant in the room, and, by elephant, I mean Robert Downey Jr. No, despite many claims, this is not "Iron Man 4". Thankfully, Tony Stark is held back for the majority of the run time and only appears when it is absolutely necessary to move the story forward. His father-like role is actually quite endearing. Comically awkward at times but endearing all the same.

In terms of the rest of the supporting cast, I have a few issues. Peter's best friend, whilst starting off strong, comes dangerously close to "annoying side character territory". He doesn't really develop all that much, save for one or two instances of bravery. I hope that the writers develop him more in the sequels.

Let's get one thing straight. Zendaya plays a character called "Michelle". By the end of the film she casually says her friends call her "MJ". People are up in arms about this. Why? Simply put, "MJ" or "Mary-Jane Watson" is white in the comics. I have two problems with this argument. First off, MJ being white has absolutely zero bearing on the story of Spider-man as a whole. None. Secondly, and this is a big one, The MJ in Homecoming is completely different from the MJ in the comics. Down to her core.

All of that being said, Michelle, or "MJ", seems to only be there to provide a few moments of comedic relief in otherwise tense situations. She's great in these moments. But, again, I feel like more could have been done with her. There is development at least, which was nice to see.

That, I feel, is the biggest negative of this latest incarnation of the webbed crusader: The supporting characters just aren't utilized to their full potential. Hardy any of them develop in any meaningful sort of way.

All in all Spider-man Homecoming is a great refresh for the character. I just hope they don't mess it up by pulling an "Amazing Spider-man 2".

TL;DR

Side characters could use some love. This movie good though

Best spider-man so far, very "human", real, truely young, fun, with a deadpoolish touch of comedy. Tom did great!!! Welcome spider-man to the Marvel Universe!!

Feature-ful spider-suit nullifies Spider-man's own abilities in this unrealistic reboot that could easily be better. Still fun though!
> Related media: I have watched all of the previous Marvel films and all of the Spider-man films.
> What's it like?: Following Captain America: Civil War, teenager Peter Parker is gifted the advanced Spider-man suit by Tony Stark (Ironman) and he tries to be a hero, but instead gets into all sort of problems and has to learn growing-up lessons.
> Pros:
> 1) Peter Parker is youthful, funny and genuine here. He was older and more emotional in Raimi's versions, which I was happy with, but he was older and more cocky in Webb's versions, which I did not like. Webb's versions also lacked excitement and danger.
> Cons:
> 1) There are far too many unrealistic aspects in this film, both physically and technologically. I’ll start with the advanced Spider-man suit. It has far more features than Ironman’s suit, which doesn't make sense. This also lessens the value of Spider-man’s own abilities. No emphasis (through slow-motion) was made of his spider-sense or spider-reflexes, thereby negating the uniqueness of Spider-man. If Captain America dons the advanced Spider-man suit, he can become Spider-man too!
> 2) The villains scavenges the alien weapons left over from the events in Marvel’s The Avengers and engineer them, in a garage, into weapons that have new abilities. I don’t see any SHIELD personnel being equipped with such weapons in past Marvel films, thus making it unlikely that the villains could have manage this.
> 3) Michael Keaton is 65 years old. No attempt was made to air-brush his wrinkles away. It seemed unbelievable that a character that looks 65 years old and has no superpowers could get into so many physical activities without injuring himself or dying. His acting was good though.
> 4) A ship split in two (it’s in the trailer!) would have broken up due to instability before Spider-man would have a chance to join it back together with his web, or whatever other method, not that either method would had worked before the ship take in so much water and sank anyway.
> 5) Raimi’s genetically-modified spider has a more realistic chance of giving Peter superpowers through its venom, than an irradiated spider, which would have died rather quickly.
> 6) The last fight between the Vulture and Spider-man was disappointing because it happened in the dark and I couldn’t see much of what was happening. Additionally, there seems to be numerous times, where the vulture could have killed Spider-man by simply grabbing him with his metal arms, but that did not happen!
> 7) Tony Stark appeared too many times in this film. This is a Spider-man film! Considering his appearances and the use of his advanced Spider-man suit, this film could have been called Spider-man: The Stark Connection!
> 8) There is an attempt to stuff the film with people from all racial backgrounds in the US. This felt unrealistic and hence the gesture felt overdone.
> How would the the different age groups rate it?
Children: Excellent
Teens: Excellent
Young adults: Good
Medium age adults: Good
Old adults: Average
> Tip: There are two 'post-credit' scenes.
> Rating: 4/5 (no half scores). It's worth to see it in the cinema.

TheThis film, tasked with bringing Spider-Man properly into the Marvel fold, is an entertaining experience with a refreshing joie de vivre which is accomplished by delightful performances and a determination not to take itself too seriously. The storyline is engaging and the script is at its best when having fun with the banter between the younger cast. The pacing is steady, and some of the action sequences are inspired, though the continued and deliberate fast cutting still manages to veer into disorientating territory as so many of these films seem to become enmired in. The soundtrack and pop culture references echo the lighter tone, and overall this reboot is the most successful rendering of this much loved character we have seen. Whilst I prefer my superhero hijinks more on the dark side, this is a polished and fun cinema experience worth your time, and stay until the end of the credits. 8.26/10 Expand

It has the awkward and nerdy Peter Parker from the Rami trilogy, it has the witty spider-man from the two Amazing Spider-man movies. It has the heart that the Amazing Spider-Man movies were missing. I know that 10 means it is perfect, but in my eyes it was. I have loved Spider-Man since I watch the 90s cartoon when I was around 1, I saw Spider-man 1 when I was 2 in the theaters and I have seen every Spider-Man movie and have loved them. This is the best beginning to a Spider-Man franchise, I don't know if it is better than 2, but I have to see it way more to make a conclusive decision. I can say that if you loved Spider-Man, go and watch this. This is arguably the best Marvel movie, but I am biased since I practically grew up with Spider-Man. If you were worried that the trailers show too much, don't be! The trailers just show you enough to think you know where the movie where go, but there is one big twist. I have never in my 17 years of age have been to a super-hero movie where the theater collectively gasps. I won't tell you what it is, but I will say I didn't see it coming. Without going into too much detail, this is my favorite super-hero movie. It is a SPIDER-MAN movie through and through. Iron-Man is really not even there for the most part. Tom Holland is the best Peter/Spidey combo we have. Tobey was a great Peter, but just a okay Spidey. Andrew was a fantastic Spidey, but a pretty bad Peter. Tom is a GREAT Spidey and a even better Peter. Some complaints are warranted like Flash Thompson, but I get the move. As someone in high school, it isn't the jocks who are bullies anymore, it is the nerds. Whether people can accept it or not it is the truth. On the young Aunt May, the actress isn't young, people act like she is 30, but in actuality she is like 50, she just looks young. I never really understood why Aunt May had to be old, it isn't like his parents had Peter when they were like 50, so it makes sense that the sister of Peter's mom would be around 50, since I am 17 and my aunt is around 50 too. It is a coming of age movie, with very realistic depictions of teenage angst and general awkwardness. I loved it when Peter got the suit taken away(not really a spoiler, happens in the trailer) because it causes Peter, to be Peter and that is why I think everyone loves Spider-Man 2, because when he loses his powers he just goes back to Peter. I love how Spider-man is just a kid, he is like the Luke Cage of Queens. He is just a small-time hero that saves kittens from trees or stops people from breaking into their own car.

I am so sorry if this is off topic and all over the place, but I just finished watching the movie for a forth time and I am still finding out new easter eggs and surprises. This movie is just too good to be true. After being burnt by my second favorite super-hero with Batman in the quite boring Batman V. Superman, I am glad the the people in Hollywood didn't mess with my emotions again. I JUST LOVED THIS MOVIE!!!!
