There’s a brisk sense of invention to the film, and it feels like it is breathlessly told, something that is due in large part to Justin Lin, who has been developing a very particular approach to blockbuster filmmaking. Yes, he’s fine with the big action mayhem that is par for the course with these films, but he understands that the thing that makes any of it interesting is making sure the audience really enjoys spending time with these characters.
Lin keeps this tense adventure (co-written by Doug Jung and Simon Pegg, who also reprises his role as chief engineer Scotty) from stumbling over its own excess: he knows that any good Star Trek needs wit as well as spectacle.
Star Trek Beyond is the first of the 3 newest Star Trek films I felt the old Star Trek magic coming back. Read some detractors that feels its not like Star Wars movies, which show how much they know about Star Trek (that is nothing at all).
Justin Lin proves a safe pair of hands at the helm of the Enterprise. Powered by a spirited sense of adventure and a nice teamwork dynamic, it’s fun, but not essential, summer viewing.
If you go out into the furthest reaches of Star Trek's filmography today, you're in for an unsettling discovery: the final frontier looks oddly familiar. It's brightly coloured eye-bait, Jim, exactly as we know it - outpacing your visual field in an attempt to convince you that something exciting is going on.
Star Trek beyond is the best in the new Star Trek trilogy, I was blown away by the action and cgi, and the intense edge of your seat thrills, I was entertained from beginning to end. RIP Spock
Of all the newer films produced by Bad Robot, this felt most like Star Trek. Still, none of them match the thoughtful storytelling of the Roddenberry era.
50 kg women fighting against 90 kg men... yes sure.
Plot very basic and superficial without time to explain it, because there were so many action scenes.
Visually this movie was great.
I didn't like the direction of this movie. Just a bad script. I found myself pressing fast forward a lot because it dragged.. This movie is not worth watching.
This movie was like watching paint dry (not the funny Family Guy way). I am out of work right now and still couldn't justify sitting through the whole thing. The cgi was laughable-worse even than Gemini man (shame on you Ang Lee) Even Karl Urban couldn't help. The one bright spot was Anton Yelchin, It was heartbreaking to see him, knowing how he died.
