amazing how so many people`s gaze don`t go any deeper than surface sheen - something forgivable for kids and teen but intolerable in those who call themselves adults - looks like those "critics" with a score of "52" never came of age.... but how clueless some can be in the age of internet and global information - a good question, even who. what, how Paul Paul Verhoeven is - no,obviously never heard of, but they will "judge" his movies....
you can write books about Heinlein books and books about this movie too - the result will be obvious all the same - some people will get it, some won`t bother even reading, like never reading Heinlein in person but "judging" something about.... anyway,
as for Verhoeven`s movie - 10/10 strongly, and please, don`t try to remake it, you not gona get it right anyway
and RIP to Basil Poledouris, his music will stay as strong as it is thru time

This film blew my teenage mind on release and frankly it aged like fine wine getting better as my home cinema setup improves. It is the very reason to get a large screen/surround setup. Verhoeven trades I the storys potential for nuance for in your face satire (a choice famously misunderstood by critics and marketing at the time of its original release). Superb stuff! Especially for sci-fi/action nerds.

Wall to wall blood 'n' guts laced with surprisingly keen social satire, much of it targeting the fatuousness of media culture.
A collection of shots and characters designed to circle the globe rather than to say anything much about either the filmmakers or the audience, a triumph of multinational capital at work rather than of people or ideas.
Paul Verhoeven's movie takes more action than ideas from Robert A. Heinlein's 1959 novel, which is just as well, considering the book's goofy suggestion that military veterans should control society from top to bottom.
What makes the claptrap in Starship Troopers so flabbergasting is that it's monumentally scaled.
It's exactly like "Star Wars" -- if you subtract a good story, sympathetic characters, intelligence, wit and moral purpose.
Only gets better with time loved it never understood how people did not know it was satire

Much like Transformers, you can only enjoy this movie if you can settle with solid special effects, boatloads of bullets, severed limbs and explosions, and awful characters and horrendous script. And causal nudity. Nothing more then a guilty pleasure, through and through.

Horrifically cheesy. I'm still trying to decide whether or not this film wants its audience to take it seriously. Even if it doesn't, as a satire it still remains as a big fat nothing of a blockbuster - all attempts at drama die in seconds and tragedy doesn't seem to exist in this ridiculous space age. Of course the themes are 'there' but what of them? The film makes no effort to extend a single message, or point. If it's not supposed to be taken seriously, the film sure fails at making that clear in the first place.

I absolutely loathe this film. While the visual effects may be impressive, the acting and the script is pure Hollywood hogwash. The main characters are so irritating, with their arrogant and cocky nature and hammy script that I was hoping that a giant insect would appear and gobble them all up instantly.
This film has no merit in terms of imagination, acting or story telling, and so I would recommend it only to spotty 15 year old boys who have no intelligence or imagination and think that playing on Call of Duty for 23 hours a day is cool. One of the worst films I've seen.
