The movie follows Hunter's life after leaving the Warners, the bad movies and years on the dinner-theater circuit. And it reveals something stronger: the quiet refusal, beneath Hunter's affable, casual manner, to be anything less than he is, neither the "sigh guy" nor a convenient symbol of gay pride. Phooey on all these critics that felt this narrative didn't go deep enough. I grew up in the Tab Hunter era, and frankly, being a young guy, wasn't a huge fan of his movies. I'm a huge fan now. I found this a refreshing change from the melodramatic and cleverly-put together documentaries we usually have served to us. It's just an enjoyable film listening and watching a legend - if not for all the right reasons - tell his story, name names, and reveal the highs and lows that come with celebrity. He has every reason in the world to be a bitter old queen, but he's far, far from it.… Expand

A fitting companion to Hunter’s book this is an insightful, interesting and very entertaining documentary. Hunter, now 84, comes over as charming and likeable and the abundance of archive material is excellently presented. Hunter, now 84, comes over as charming and likeable and the abundance of archive material is excellently presented. His films were normally B grade and it would appear that he did some of his best work in theatre and TV working with top names like Geraldine Page. There are contributions from the likes of Robert Wagner, Debbie Reynolds and Connie Stevens. His relationship with Anthony Perkins is touched upon, as is his re-emergence in the 80’s when he starred in a few films for John Waters in which he appeared with Divine. There are intimations that his homosexuality and good looks may have hindered his career. That, however, is something we probably will never now know.… Expand
