We’ve seen this movie before, or at least versions of this story — but thanks to Hall’s well-crafted script and sure-handed direction, and the heartbreakingly effective performances from Teller and the supporting players, this is a powerful and valuable addition to the coming-home war movie canon.
No film drama can make us “know” PTSD, but by the end of Thank You for Your Service, you feel as if the agony, and bravery, of our soldiers has become less remote and more tangible. Hall’s filmmaking is crisp, assured, and, at times, quietly audacious.

"Thank You for Your Service" is a very disturbing movie to watch, primarily because it accurately depicts the obstacles veterans must overcome in order to get the medical and psychological help they need after they return to the United States injured in body, mind, or both. The acting performances are strong, and the script is compelling. The viewer leaves the theater hoping that promised reforms in the corrupt and inefficient Veterans Administration are finally implemented after decades of broken promises from our government.

Writer-director Jason Hall astutely conveys these and other facets of the modern veteran’s experience, generating authentic drama, in scenes that play out in unexpected ways.
It’s not always effective drama, but as an example for thousands of struggling American families, it’s a serious breakthrough.
Not once does anyone question the war or their involvement in it. We can't depend on big answers from filmmakers, but to not ask big questions seems like a dereliction of duty.
Beyond its best little moments, the movie is addressing a serious issue, and it feels awfully churlish to complain that its earnest depictions of soldiers in psychological pain isn’t novel enough, or that Koale’s performance is a little shakier than Teller’s, or that the movie doesn’t have much to say about the Iraq War in particular, or that it eventually tries to pass off a lack of resolution as an abbreviated happy ending. But these stumbling blocks do stack up, standing in the way of Hall’s best intentions.
Hall’s marching in lockstep with a lengthy platoon of directors who have already blazed this same path through enemy territory. And though he’s got some upstanding troops at his disposal, his plan of attack lacks that crucial unexpected element that can take an opposing battalion – or an audience – off guard.
An emotionally moving, heartwarming, great acted, well paced, and a truly underrated gem that deserved alot more attention.

This felt like a real message that was sent to the care system which the veterans are receiving when getting home from war. And that is what it should have been, based on the books and the real story behind the plot. The actors did a marvelous job delivering the emotions and tension to the screen, and the cinematographic shots are intensifying the experience as well. Shortly to the point this is a very powerful movie with a perfectly executed elements and all aspects overall it's a very good movie with a very good story and message, but lacking some conclusion to their stories.

Good and interesting story that is rarely portrayed in films without any sort of adornments, but unfortunately it never gets a stable rhythm and although it ends up being a relevant film, it's just barely a noteworthy film. It has good quality but it's a quality that never goes beyond the basics.

If this film were to go anywhere from being a green-light, it would be very difficult for it go to green without going to red at certain points of the film. Thank You for Your Service attempts to create a strong, interesting message that executes pretty rough. Depending on the result, it may or may not be worth a second watch.

While trying to underscore the mistreatment of veterans in America, Thank you for Your Service falls flat on its overall tone. Through emotionally stale dialogue, the film fails to make audience feel sympathetic to its characters.
