This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. How is this so highly rated? Nearly everything about it falls flat. We were cracking up at the terrible dialogue, bizarre music choices, and above all Pattinson's mopey mopey daddy-issues Batman. And his big, big, clunky boots. I guess there was a desire for a post-Joker Batman, but turning a villain into an antihero (as in Joker) and turning a hero into a sad sack aren't the same thing. Come. On. Batman's supposed to be a classic hero, motivated by a desire to avenge his family and clean up his city. This guy is a depressive insomniac who wears lots of eye makeup and hates everyone. I didn't understand for a second what was supposed to be motivating him. He seemed drugged and bored the entire film. When Catwoman kissed him, I thought he was going to start crying about being aggressed.… Expand

This was a terrible movie. It was painfully boring, the plot had no weight, and Bruce Wayne/Batman came off as weak. I honestly can't believe they would release something like this after the dark knight trilogy.

This movie is lengthy and very slow. Almost 3 hours is a ridiculous amount of time for this movie. Matt should shorten this movie to about 2 hours and 15 minutes as standard. It saddens me to announce that even our beloved Batman has fallen to the WOKE agenda. Aside from the cape crusader there only three characters who are not evil/corrupt- all of them are black. The rest? Evil greedy white men. The villains tooIt saddens me to announce that even our beloved Batman has fallen to the WOKE agenda. Aside from the cape crusader there only three characters who are not evil/corrupt- all of them are black. The rest? Evil greedy white men. The villains too of course. But what’s worse, the movie constantly breaks your immersion into it’s already disappointing world by injecting its biased politics (cat woman referring to Gotham as a city of white privileged men). As a movie, THE BATMAN is mediocre at best. The first part feels like a big budget law and order episode set in the DC universe. There’s barely any action and it’s just too long.
RIP batman, we’ll always have the Nolan (and Burton) movies.… Expand

Woke movie with racism towards white people (which is of course we ALL know that isn't racism at all), including the usual character stealing (called "diversity").

This is by far the worst Batman movie that saw the light of a movie theater. The acting is bad. The pacing is bad. It is a slow, dull movie with the worst actor portrayal of Batman to date. The tone is awful. You can hardly hear what is being said. The film is dark. There's way too much pausing of dialog. Consequently, the movie gets unwatchable quickly. This is a "Don't waste your time" kind of movie.

I looked at this rubbish with high expectations. The film is so boring and so sluggish and tough as leather that it could well be used as a sleeping pill. I love the character of Batman but this movie was all over the place, dragged across 3 hours of boredom.
First, its Batman himself. I understand that he is supposed to be powerful and all in certain ways but, through the whole movie, it feltI love the character of Batman but this movie was all over the place, dragged across 3 hours of boredom.
First, its Batman himself. I understand that he is supposed to be powerful and all in certain ways but, through the whole movie, it felt like he was someone using a cheat command console on a game and types in "god".
Numerous times, he gets absolutely destroyed and not even a scratch or damage to the armor or a scar on part of the face that is not covered...nothing
First he is running away from cops, uses his wingsuit to escape and falls down after hitting a bridge or something AND slams onto the ground. A small grunt was the only thing that happened.
After that, he gets blasted by a bomb that blew up right in front of his face that made him fly across the church hall...Next scene, he`s completely fine, not a problem...
Finally, as the movie was slowly coming to a closure, he eats a bunch of automatic riffle bullets, while casually walking towards the two thugs shooting him and, of course, without twitching, takes them down... I mean, what the fck...
His fighting is clumsy and for someone who is in the role of Batman for two years should have made him more experienced.
There were NEVER any consequences to his actions. Riddler all of the sudden figuring out that Bruce is Batman was not even it...
Speaking of Bruce...In this movie, he is depicted as someone who does not care about his life, not even trying to be Bruce Wayne, as depicted in the comics and other movies...
In Batman Begins, Alfred tells Bruce that he has to do things he is not comfortable with like, spending money on cars and buying hotels, being a rich douche...Which he does, knowing that THAT separates him from his alter ego, while also protecting the people close to him.
In this movie, there is none, NONE !
Him realizing at the end, I must be more that vengeance does not overwrite all the bad **** throughout the movie.
The chemistry between him and Catwoman was pretty much forced and felt rushed.
They barely have any real interactions and all of the sudden she kisses him...If Reeves left that to happen later in his vision of Batman`s life, it would have been done way smoother and more understandable.
Also, when it comes to Selina, I have to mention *that* line... She says "White privileged a**holes"... That was not needed. Riddler felt like the only part of the movie that I liked, UNTIL Reeves ruined him.
From the very beginning, his plan was to unravel the corrupt city officials and violently expose them. Which was from a villain stand point a good start. He felt creepy, brutal and he was showing what he was doing to everyone and people of Gotham actually started cheering for him (Major funeral scene, as Bruce was arriving)
And by the end of the movie, once he`s caught, Batman reveals his ultimate plan...which was to... kill innocents by flooding the entre city ? What ?
Reeves built a character that already had a premise and was well written, only to retcon his decisions at the end and make him a serial murderer of innocent people....
I also liked Colin`s Penguin adaptation, his acting and looks fully made a fresh, great take on a classic comic villain. He was always Batman`s punching bag and at least that has not changed...
The Batmobile was also awesome, as a car guy, I was blown away.
The soundtrack was ok, the bat and cat themes were good.
Overall, even those good things do not make up for such a bad movie for me.

I thought about not including the Joker in this review but I cannot not mention him.
Batman movies nowadays suffer from Joker fatigue. Batman has so so many comic book villains that could be used in Reeves' universe, and ground them instead of making all fantasy like.
Mad Hatter, Calendar Man, Victor Zsasz, Death Stroke (Even tho he doesn't fit in within the theme of the first movie) heck, even Killer Croc where he could be a dude who's a cannibal... ANYTHING of that but the Joker...
This version clearly tries too hard to be like Ledger, just by listening to him. He's voice is very similar to him, it's very see-through.… Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. OK, There are spoilers in this writeup. This is your warning. The first thing I will say is Christopher Nolan set the bar very high. To this day I still watch the original trilogy many times and love them to bits. There were subtle issues like Bane should have been played by a bigger Spanish actor, or that Ra's al Ghul should have been played by a more Asian actor. Point noted, but the characters and their portrayal in the films were very good.
Coming back to The Batman. Batman was casted perfectly, the film was dark and music / atmosphere superb. Where the film let itself down. Here we go..... Batman came across weak, direct in confrontations, no real strategy, takes gunshot hits, rifle hits direct to body and carries on fighting. The fight sequences were sloppy. Now Batman wears black, he comes out at night for a reason. Where were his weapons, stealth, use of the darkness, smoke, stun grenades, strategy. His an expert martial artist, knows ninjutsu, the art of deception. Remember that starting out with less kit. The man should have been more stealth, more indirect, more strategy His not starting out, his already equipped mentally and physically. The guy knows why his doing this. If you want to know more about what I mean. Play the games Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, Arkham Origins and Arkham Knights on the ps3, ps4. Play the games in normal mode and go up against the enemies directly with no strategy and you will see what happens. Batman dies. Remember this very important thing when you are watching batman films. His not a f$%king super hero with special powers that protect him. His just a good hearted, righteous rich kid, who's parents were murdered. So he decides to do something to make a difference for the people of Gotham. Now this is why I love and respect Batman / Bruce Wayne so much. He has all the money in the world and can move on and live a wonderful comfortable life in rich surroundings. But no, he makes a stand for justice, and to do the right thing, and bring criminals to justice. Using his money to aid him.
The casting of Catwoman as a black woman, changing her background, for me was wrong. The casting of Commissioner Gordan as a black man was wrong. Went against the batman lore and the comics in my eyes. I'm sorry but if you don't like this, tough. I have nothing against black actors. One of my best is Morgan Freeman. Love the guy. Watch some of his films like The Shawshank Redemption.
Now we move on to the story, the riddler and the penguin were not vicious, evil enough. These are f$%ked up in the head characters. They did not scare or intimidate. Think of the joker in The dark Knight. This guy f$%king put you in your place. He made you feel uneasy, uncomfortable, scared. Personally if I'd had to be close to the joker. I'd be 10 feet away with a automatic machine gun pointed to his head. One move and his dead. That's how much I'd trust the guy. A f$%ked up in the head, unpredictable guy.
Now when you point a gun at your enemy at point blank range. What I would like to know is how the f$%k did catwoman miss her f$%king target. Secondly when the lady going for election gets shot in the stomach by a sniper round. How the f$%k did she survive that. Thirdly how does batman survive being shot by multiple attackers with automatic machine guns at point blank range and beats them all up. Please help me on these points. Catwoman manages to conceal a gun and get past Falcone's security. What rubbish. The action sequences were boring and the final sequence boring. What I would like to know is where did the f$%king $200 million in making the film go. Did the actors get most of it. Because I sure hell did not see much in the film.
Go if you must to watch it and see for yourself. But I think these days cinema has been going downhill for the last 15 years. The reviewers have been bought and there is no originality or risk any more in making controversial films any more. On top of this we now have the Woke **** So this is my opinion. This was bad - no chemistry between the main cast, plot that is just a collection of crime scenes like in a video game, the whole revelation about the rata alada was ridiculous. The Batman is the worst Batman movie. I gave up after 2hrs. It reminded me of a bad re make of the movie Seven. It just doesn't make very much sense, and Robert Patterson looks and acts like an emo Heroin junkie. There is a lot going on,The Batman is the worst Batman movie. I gave up after 2hrs. I liked the idea of the how bruce wayne's family had done some shady stuff, and the riddler was trying to expose it, but patterson is just such a bad actor its to hard to sit through. Look at Patterson and jeffery wright trying to solve a mystery and compare that to brad pit and morgan freeman in seven. The imagery is way to similar. With all that money they couldn't come up with something original smh… Expand

God Awful. Too Long, slow and boring. Totally missed the fundamental aspects of Batman's character. Lasy this is just a cosplay batman. No skills non of his gadgets like been able to glide or use smoke pellets, and he's two years in. He'd be dead in first week, it immersion braking. This movie is just straight up terrible, and if you make it through the olympic marathon run time, you are a greater man than I, Gunga Din. One star for production values. One could say the filmmakers took the noir label "a bit literally." Catwoman complaining abt white privilege is a joke too. The only reason I’m giving this a 3 is because of the great performance as BATMAN by Pattinson, not Bruce Wayne. Penguin and riddler were decent too. Overall, slow boring snoozefest, with only a couple of cool scenes, and an ending that is anticlimactic. Very disappointed.… Expand

Long and boring film. This is a 2h50 police investigation with a depressive batman and catwoman. The photograph the Riddler takes that is shown at the start of the movie should have lead Batman right to him instantly. That alone proves how little people pay attention these days. I am glad that I did not waste my money on this, and cannot wait to see everyone flip in a year when they realize how bad it really was, just like The Force Awakens.… Expand

The movie has some nice action scenes, that’s where Putitinson holds his mouth. But in between it is so utter boring. The Riddler is portrayed as a pathetic nerd. AND the leather mask from batman is bullet proof. Pityhisson should have died at least 5 times during all the shootings, but nooo … the bullets hit only his body armour which is indestructible yet still so easy to move in.… Expand

I have never felt so bored by a Batman film before. It was 3 hours of slow, tedious dialogue, uninspired presentation, and sad sad characters (I never knew Batman could be so emo. That was A LOT of mascara under the eyes). And allow me toI have never felt so bored by a Batman film before. And allow me to educate the film makers from someone who actually reads comics, because I know they don't. Superheroes are larger than reality -- that's what makes them exciting. Previous Batman films had exotic tech, wild characters that wouldn't exist in real life, and Batman did things that stretch the imagination of what is possible for mortal men. But apparently, such extras are not included with Emo Batman action figures. He punches guys, hoists himself with grappling hooks, the bat mobile is a modified 80s muscle car, and uses a stupid base jumping suit to fall with style. It's a far cry from remote attracted bat swarms, trick baterangs, and outrageous vehicles like the Knightcrawler.

And don't think the blatant racism and sexism wasn't apparent. I see you DC and Warner Bros. I see how every evil character was a white man, and barring Batman and Alfred every decent character was black or Hispanic. I see your blackwashing and the white erasure of originally white characters like Selena and Jim. I see you getting Selena to specifically call the city of Gotham a place for "white privilaged **** I see you turning the Riddler into a sad, mentally unstable loner reminiscent of the mass shooters leftwing media likes to propagandize to engender misandry and white hatred. I see you and I am calling you out for your racism and sexism and am going to tell everyone it was you're companies.
And if you dear reader downvote my review based on this second paragraph, then I say with complete sincerity that you are a sexist and racist too and you should be ashamed of your sad, hate filled life.… Expand

Felt like someone drew up a storyboard and was shooting scenes of it, and didn’t really care how they were strung together. Did anyone notice that Bruce was out of suit maybe for 5.5 minutes combined? Literally no lines outside of him being in his Batman persona (fighting crime!) so no chance to earn any depth. Possibly one of the worst scripts of all time. Love Rob, but there’s only so much you can do with a horrible character and horrible script and direction. Did anyone else die a little Inside when he went to the club with his hair over his face? Like an emo 00’s kid. And the casting. THE CASTING. Jeffrey Wright, while generally a good actor, was not meant for this role. I cringed every time he was on screen. Gollum/Snoke, while an AMAZING actor, is NOT Alfred. Such an odd and ill fitting choice. Zoe Kravitz is generally a bad actor imo, and the script just sent her plummeting. Can we talk about her characters big reveal with the falcon being her dad? And then what? What did we do with this info thereafter? How did it further the story? Can we talk about the weird ass “woke” lines. “They’re just a bunch of straight white privileged **** - says to a straight white male. “Let’s take down those hedge fund guys” -says to a hedge fund guy. I consider myself “woke”, but my dude, make it in character and canon. Literally pulls you right out. And the Riddler talking to his followers like a **** twitch streamer? What’s going on in this movie? Visually it was pleasing, hence my 2. That’s the only praise I can give. Rob as Batman is good, as Bruce is horrible. The script was terrible in places - drawn out and boring, which in turn seemed to make the actors unable to act to the best of their ability. Many scenes could have been cut to 25% of what they were. The camera lens choices were not to my taste, but it worked all together with the feel of the scenes. The actors were very poorly cast in the majority of characters - the only one I liked was Gordon. I do think that if you have seen the Gotham series then that may have spoiled batman films as it is an incredible series with great character development (of which there was none in this film). The romance between Batman and Catwoman was so wooden and unnatural, like there was no chemistry at all. It got to the point in the film that whenever there was extended sections that could have been a quarter of the length, I just found it laughable. I'm glad some people enjoyed the film but please compare it to a number of films and series of the same type before you decide that this is in the realm of good.
Would never watch this again and would avoid any future ones in the same series.… Expand

The Batman series has had phases of excellence and phases of disaster, and sadly, this movie falls in the latter category. Save your money and watch something else.… Expand

Im usually kind but this is one of the worst movies i've ever seen. And i have no idea where the positive ones come from.

* He walks straight into room without any tactic or minding his surroundings. You know how he use to be silent and sneaky? Now he just walks in with his heavy boots clomping slowly into the room. He's walking like a kid that borrowed daddy's shoes and **** his pants. Its so weird.
* They only shoot him right at the strongest points of his armour. They even walk up to him and shoot point blank in the stomach even though they know its bulletproof. Maybe aim for the face? Nah!
* But that probably wouldnt work either since he literally takes a bomb to the face and nothing happends. And its straight in the face from a decimeter or two away. Not even a bruise.
* Batman doesnt kill. But still causes the biggest traffic accident in the citys history killing a dozen people and doesnt care. For no reason, the payoff was nothing.
* He has one personality trait: Sadness. Remember Afflecks sad Batman picture? Thats him for the entire movie. He has no other emotions. None. At one point he's angry but still manages to be sad at the same time. Another time he's sad and sad at the same time.
* You want some light flares? Well you got them! Especially since its constantly raining heavily and the camera has to be filming straight into car and motorcycle beams. But dont worry, you also get muzzle flares straight into your face because why not.

Just watch Batman Begins again. This is so bad.… Expand

In the first fight a predominantly white gang (now we know it's fiction) tries to convince an innocent black teen to commit a crime. He can't do it, of course, he's just too good. Commissioner Gordon is black now. As is Catwoman (who is also, of course, a lesbian). This is just the first 20 minutes, after which I turned it off.… Expand

It doesn't light a candle to Nolan's films, nor does it to 1989's Batman, so it makes it to the middle of the pack, but is it as fun as the 1966 Batman? Acts too moody as Bruce and comes off like a Walmart version of The Crow at times. Way too long. Totally contrived 'plot twists' ruin this movie. The fight scenes were cool. The Batmobile was super slick. There qere some good scenes, just clearly not 3 hours of them. At times, my friend and I wanted to fall asleep. The villian just plain sucked. The takeaway is that this just might be the worst Batman movie in the last 15-20 years or so..… Expand

It was by far the worst Batman movie. I don’t understand what the director was thinking. The acting was terrible. The Riddler wasn’t interesting. Garbage. I just want to make it totally clear, anyone who has rated this movie a ten or claimed it is any sort of masterpiece is lying to you and themselves. I went with my teenage son. We somehow made it to the end and both couldn't agreeGarbage. The beginning was good some raw violence but from there and on it was too slow couple ppl walked out and I was this close to do so, too. Not worth the three hours watch the end on YouTube and you won’t be missing anything

Movie was overly dark, almost every character sounded raspy like batman. Audio for all dialogs was way too low and almost inaudible. I couldn't finish watching it. Terrible. The screenwriters killed the talent of the actors. Part of the plot is an copy of the "Law-abiding Citizen". The movie is not worth spending money on a movie theater.

Apparemment, ils ne savaient plus comment l’appeler ce nouveau « Batman »… alors, un mange-merde a suggéré… « The Batman ». Ils ont fait une réunion de 12h, puis ont voté à l’unanimité pour « The » Batman parce qu’il y a eu entretemps «Apparemment, ils ne savaient plus comment l’appeler ce nouveau « Batman »… alors, un mange-merde a suggéré… « The Batman ». Ils ont fait une réunion de 12h, puis ont voté à l’unanimité pour « The » Batman parce qu’il y a eu entretemps « Suicide Squad »… puis « The Suicide Squad » ! et même qu’avant, on a eu droit à… « The Predator » !… bah putain.

M’enfin bref, ce nouveau Batmou est aussi mou et bavard que les précédents, ceux de Nolan. Et pour cause, puisqu’il dure lui aussi pas loin de3 plombes ! tu m’étonnes que le machin n’avance pas… Très peu d’action et plein de blabla de merde. D’autant que l’intrigue n’intrigue pas mais nous passe au contraire carrément par dessus la tête.

En outre, la « Catwoman » est très décevante et n’a que ses formes pour elle… et par ailleurs, si l’ambiance (très nocturne) est plus proche de l’esprit « Batman », la batmobile sort de chez Mad Max et les tenues apparaissent étrangement bricolées : les super-héros s’équipent en effet entièrement chez Bricorama ! M’enfin bref, c’est de la merde ce Batmou tout mou, ils ont donc (encore) merdé chez DC.… Expand

The Batman is a movie that claims to revolutionize big-screen adaptations of the classic character, but fails in almost every way.

The cinematography and music/score are amazing, but every other aspect of this movie left me wanting.

Batman is a moody like a teenager, and clearly is supposed to learn a lesson about what he represents to the city of Gotham. But that lesson is completely unearned by the end of the film, and in fact his character is almost superfluous to the heroic climax.

Zoe Kravitz tries to deliver an intriguing Catwoman, but the writing leaves her as a damsel in distress multiple times, and the super-flawed Batman is constantly taking the moral high ground with her and talking down to her.

Colin Ferrell's Penguin was a high point for his performance and humor, but underused as just a secondary villain.

The plot is plodding and overly-long. Upon my second watch of the movie, I found myself drifting off to sleep often in the first half. Knowing what happens next, I lost all interest in the mystery because it is delivered in an unexciting manner. The Riddler is the main antagonist for awhile, but then disappears from the movie and is replaced with a string of other threats before becoming just another item to be checked off the list by the end.

The action is well choreographed, but just like other DCEU films, there is a swath of collateral damage that is far too apparent to be ignored as it is. Batman is just as destructive at the end of the film as he is at the beginning, leaving one to wonder what the lesson is to be learned here.

On a related note, the movie does touch upon current issues such as corruption and greed in politics and government, but then has a very regressive take on the mentally ill and the drug epidemic. The themes presented here are muddled and presented in a slap-dash manner that makes little sense.

Overall, I found the movie boring, regressive, and without meaningful themes.… Expand

Not even george Clooney was bad as the soy bat. Truly difficult to watch. It was like watch a wet cardboard box dressed as a bat trying to convince you that he's a real boy.

Could’ve easily cut an hours away. Not the typical (good) Batman movie with action, a god plot and well developed characters, this movie was the exact opposite. Pattinson and Kravitz have talent better used for better movies.
