The Bronze has a loony Napoleon Dynamite–meets–Talladega Nights-on-the-balance-beam charm. Hope may be a giant jackass, but she’s America’s jackass.
It takes a surprising amount of time to adjust to the film’s shticky conception of its main character, Hope Ann Greggory (Melissa Rauch).

This is a good comedy. I would give it a 7 if it didn't had the best erotic scene at the history of humanity( Porn movies included)! The only negatives is the strong language, an adult film for sure and that sometimes the flow of events is a little slow but when you start to relax the film always manage to suprise you.

Don't sleep on this film - pretty freakin' funny in parts. I think it pretty much befuddled the critics, and they didn't know what to make of it. Sony obviously abandoned it from the jump. Could have found an audience. Oh well.

This is one of those comedies that could have been a brilliant short film on “Funny or Die” or “Saturday Night Live,” but wears out its welcome as a feature-length film.
Disappointingly, this scruffy indie doesn’t live up to its promise either, despite a few flashes of subversive inspiration.
Built on an interesting idea -- but which, unlike Strug, can't quite stick the landing.
There’s a nude scene that comes out of nowhere that’s almost embarrassing. Why is it there? Like the movie itself, it’s almost daring, except it’s not.
The first act of the film wins some laughs on surrealist shock humour, but at the expense of ever accepting this character and her world as real.
The plot of the **** character redeemed has been around forever, and movies like Bad News Bears and the Will Farrell sports movies capitalized on that device. Now comes The Bronze, with Melissa Rauch as the F-bomb dropping ex-gymnast living off past glory while stealing birthday cash from her Dad's mail truck. It's not original by any stretch, but Rauch, who I only knew from Big Bang Theory, delivers big time. And she surrounds herself with excellent support from Gary Cole and Thomas Middleditch, both from two of my favorite comedies, Veep and Silicon Valley. As mentioned the sex scene is the funniest of it's sort since Team America.

This is an enjoyable movie that I don't think quite deserves the bad press it's gotten. It suffers mainly from a confused genre that veers more towards sports drama than the comedy it's billed as, although comedy is definitely a big factor. It's a cross between "As Good as It Gets" meets...like, basically any sports movie, where the has-been coach also happens to be the crankiest but most talented person in town. It suffers in that it waits just maybe five minutes too long to generate sympathy for the protagonist, who covers up vulnerability with abrasiveness a little too well, to the point that we wonder if there is anything to like about her at all. There is, if you stick with it, but it's easy enough to see why people who don't like the character initially don't get past it in time to enjoy the rest of the movie. In my opinion, it's a better flick than "As Good as it Gets," which at 2h19 feels interminable by the 1h30 mark.
Aside from taking slightly too long to establish sympathy, this 1hr40min drama/comedy is well paced, and keeps you engaged through the growth of the character, who does evolve into a good person without abandoning everything that makes her her. The performances are great; Rauch is consistent and funny, Gary Cole is always solid, Middleditch (of Silicon Valley) is a great straightman with his own impeccable comedic timing, and Sebastian Stan packs feeling into a character who could have easily been a one-dimensional asshoIe. I'd give it a shot, and give yourself a chance to like it, remembering that the protag is just a bit slow to warm up to in the first third of the movie.

Decent movie, even though Melissa Rauch was annoying at times and I don't mean just her voice. Yes, her character is meant to be like that, but at parts it was just me disliking it instead of being funny what it's meant to be. But the movie has also it's good moments, even though the whole thing was quite predictable and the script is quite cliche.
