Over-ambitious perhaps, but Freyne’s intensely executed ‘infected’ fable packs tension, resonance, and clout.
The Cured suffers from a common marketing problem that afflicts many horror-cross-something hybrids: it’s at times too slow and existential for pure blood and gore lovers and too grotesque for those with a penchant for offbeat, idea-based allegories.

This one was unfortunately just swept under the cinematic rug. Despite strong reviews and as n intriguing trailer the movie barely registered sadly. Starring a very solid Ellen Page in her best role since Juno and sexy Sam Keeley (Anthropoid) the movie is one of the best "zombie" I've seen. With an intriguing premise that concerns the infected being brought back to everyday life after a cure is found. But there's an awful side effect as they remember what they've done. The film deals with the prejudice and hatred they encounter from the public as they try and reenter. The movies has echoes of the hate crimes and treatment LGBTQ people have and still suffer. But don't worry it's not all inspired drama. Theres plenty of horror as the cured that are pissed off at how they are being treated concoct a plan that involves the 25% that couldn't be cured. The movie is engaging and emotionally resonant. But it's also heartfelt and edge of your seat besides the main subtext it's also about grief and forgiveness and theres a strange connection that the infected possess that almost feels slightly **** when it comes to out main character and his friend who leads the sort if resistance. Ultimately it's innovative and immersive and most of all entertaining. Props to the makers for the **** storyline involving the doctor and her infected love. A definite must see.

The Cured is an interesting entry into the realm of the zombie flick. It may be too character intensive and lacking in action for some, but it does a fair job of detailing just how tribal humans can be and how ruthless the worst of us may get.
The hinge on which film turns is the hatred of many toward those who have been cured of the zombie affliction, and the response of those cured who are not content to be treated like Z-class citizens.
Certain critics charge that as metaphor the logic of the film does not apply to the modern issues of refugees and unwanted migration -- issues that have been with us throughout human history -- but I think the critics wrong. It's all about the outsider, the person who is different, and the differences that are forever perceived as a threat by those, who, in the end, roar with outrage to conceal the cowardice within.
Fans of the genre should check it out.

Just when you thought nothing new could be done with the undead, “The Cured” pulls off a fresh take on zombie terrain.
Everyone is extremely serious, which can be a bit of a drag at times, but as a study in trauma The Cured has its moments and the film plays best when it remains intimate.
The movie is swimming with ideas, but it values concept over character to a problematic degree. The Cured maps out an increasingly elaborate set of internal rules that govern its characters without defining or deepening them.
That's a pretty good notion, though nothing comes of it because the first-time filmmaker, David Freyne, has so many undigested ideas on his plate-guilt, innocence, bigotry, forgiveness, atonement and, if you please, a replaying of IRA strife.
Freyne obviously intends all this as a grand allegory for refugee crises/immigration politics, but the logic applied to anti-immigration politics simply does not apply to anti-Cured politics. The allegory doesn’t track, and neither does the movie’s internal logic.
On dirait un film de zombis qu'on a pas eu le temps de finir et qu'on a boulotté à l'arrache, histoire de sortir le merdier en salles puisque de toute façon, on a trouvé assez de cons pour financer ce foutoir de merdier tout nul à chier qui veut se faire passer pour un film entier...
"On", c'est évidemment les gens qui ont démoulé ce cake ni fait ni à faire et dans lequel s'est fourvoyée la jolie Ellen Page qui prend un peu de l'âge, l'air de rien et qui devient moins mignonne qu'avant... Cela dit, mignonne ou pas, elle n'aidera pas à faire passer la pillule de ce nanar tout foireux à nette tendance sociale pour la réinsertion et contre la, comment dit-on déjà en langage du vivre-ensemble ?... ah oui, contre l'exclusion et tout ça...
Mais on en a rien à cirer en fait et on pisse à la raie de votre sale étron de film à deux balles !
