A compact British drama that does more with only three people and a few modest settings than most movies do with computerized bloat and a cast of hundreds.
The film is delicious, welcome, and entirely satisfying and, as an added bonus, far and away the best genre-fan date movie of the year.

brilliant so many twists really kept me wondering what was going to happen next right from the very first scene. Martin Compston is certainly an actor with a bright future.

The best Brit noir since "Croupier" is a complex, marvellously twisty thriller.
The Disappearance of Alice Creed will keep your attention, but you may walk away thinking you've seen something like it before: "Sleuth," with more sex and violence.
A skilled cast is Blakeson's greatest asset in his attempt to elevate his material above its pulpy limitations. All three are better actors than this sort of movie might call for.
The writer-director, who goes by the name J Blakeson, keeps the suspense level high for the first hour or so, but he then indulges in a few plot twists that strain credibility.
Blakeson's feature-length calling card has storyboarded austerity and sadomasochistic promise but in the end lets the game play out in a familiar flurry of double-crossings, two-timings and false deaths, content to only fetishize itself.
C’est un polar bien étrange… on ignore jusqu’au bout s’il s’agit d’une comédie ou d’un thriller… ou plus simplement d’un film à rebondissements plus ou moins discutables… et provocateurs ! Tout cela semble un peu tiré par les cheveux, surtout vers la fin qui fait feu de tout bois avec ce trio de personnages que l’on dirait tout droit sorti d’un tabloïd putassier à deux centimes de livre (pléonasme)…
Un numéro d’actrice tout à fait étonnant en tout cas, de la part de la si jolie Gemma Arterton très investie dans un rôle scabreux… c’est le moins qu’on puisse dire ! un peu cruel également, voire sadique ou sinistrement ironique (avec l’humour anglais, allez savoir…).
Les deux autres comédiens sont très bien aussi, notamment Martin Compston plus connu dans son rôle opiniâtre sur l’excellente série Line of Duty. La réalisation est bien fichue (comme Gemma, ma foi) mais le film se concentre uniquement sur les deux cons et la cocotte kidnappée, éludant tout ce qui peut arriver ou se passer à l’extérieur…
On reste donc un peu sur sa faim, même si la conclusion (un rebondissement encore) peut prêter à sourire. Un film assez original néanmoins et sans temps mort !

As always....i'm stopping this short.....dont believe their relationship and this isn't good enough for me to go to sleep to **** you do think for a second that you might see the lead actress **** **** **** way...i would be tied up essentially for 1000 dollars and.... be very happy...even if i thought i was gonna die for several hours....even if my dad had to pay it....seems to be the moral of the story

2 guys kidnap a girl for a ransom and have her tied up to a bed while they make their demands clear to her apparently rich father. Of course things soon get out of hand and yada yada yada. 'The Disappearance of Alice Creed' is without a doubt one of the worst films you could have the misfortune of popping into you DVD player. Not only will you be confronted with some really terrible acting, the writing of this play is so incredibly amateurish, it just beggars belief. Half the time you are listening to two guys talking to each other explaining to the audience what it is they did, how it went down and what they will do next. And the asinine plot twists they randomly inserted have to be seen to be believed. It's almost if no one actually took the time and read the script but started to roll the camera as soon as the crew was assembled and had finished their coffee. Recommended only for a good toe curling.
