This one's a thousand times better than the weenie Exorcist II: The Heretic they made in 1977. [28 Sep 1990, p.6]
Exorcist III may not have the visceral impact of the first film, but it gives viewers far more than they had any reason to expect.

One of the best thriller films ever and the best Exorcist sequel.

I am going to rate the director’s cut of Legion differently to the theatrical, which is my preferred version. This review covers the Legion version which I honestly think is interesting and very entertaining but fails to be as good as the version with an actual exorcism. What this film does well is the story progression and the characters. It also has one of the best jump scares in cinematic history. How the story is told is a true highlight. I would also argue that the theatrical version is actually better than the original film, the definitive of the perfect sequel. This version isn’t as good though in my opinion. For starters the quality of the new footage is pretty terrible and jars greatly with the main part of the film. It also doesn’t really add anything or do anything differently for the first hour so the extra moments are really quite pointless. Now in the final half there are more changes and these are the ones that are interesting for fans of the theatrical version. But that is all this version is, a curiosity for fans. It removes the climatic exorcism and removes Father Karras to focus more on the gemini killer. So it’s different and what makes the original so engrossing is still all there but the low quality of the inserted scenes are sometimes distracting but nevertheless interesting for fans.

It probably misses the point to complain that a movie about satanic possession gets a little ridiculous towards the end.
But The Exorcist III is such a witty, chilling treat until its final sequences that the complaint stands. The problem may be that no explanation of the film's diabolical events can possibly be as convincing or scary as the events themselves. [20 Aug 1990, p.F10]
This may sound like heresy, but The Exorcist III is a better and funnier (intentionally) movie than either of its predecessors.
You strain to hear mumbled dialogue at times, and there's no sense trying to making sense of it -- but Exorcist III is not half-bad terrible psychological thriller junk entertainment. [18 Aug 1990, p.C3]
The Exorcist III has the feel of a nightmare catechism lesson, or a horror movie made by a depressed monk.
the good horror movie I didn't expect too much because it was a sequel to The Old exorcist but this was a really good one and I enjoyed the story and the characters in it it has a really good hour of mystery and that detective angle makes even more interesting
especially love the acting they did a really good job with the scenes a patient x just blew it out of the water it was amazing to him say every bird pronounce it in a way that was so disgusting and interesting
only real criticism would be that I think some of the scares were a bit silly but it's mostly just the one that involved the ceiling I would not say anymore and I enjoyed the ending even if I think it went a bit over the top
enjoy not as good as the original but they did a good job

To me, The Exorcist III is a nice mysterious horror flick with many nice scary moments.
