Can you recommend a horror movie based on its impressive meanness? Meet Nicolas Pesce’s new and improved take on The Grudge, which is often as nasty as you want it to be, its cheesy jump-scares and generic packaging be damned.
This is not a “fun” horror picture. It’s about miseries both supernatural and mundane. And, yes, it’s scary. Pesce’s art-film roots are evident in the movie’s slow-burn first hour. But in the final third, The Grudge piles on the explicit gore and jump scares — all leading to a final scene and final shot as terrifying as anything in the original series.

Ignore what other people say this film is absolutely terrifying and I don’t find any film scary the first half of the film wasn’t that bad but on the second half they crammed so many jump scares in it we was nearly in tears it is a mixture between a extremely jumpy film and a mental **** film never again do I ever want to be in a house alone this film mentally terrorises you while also making you jump out your skin I would defined recommend if you want a film that will generally make you jump and get you scared So watch it but don’t say I didn’t warn you it is **** terrifying

Holy crap, people love jumping on a bandwagon to absolutely drag a movie. I especially doubt many of you actually enjoying the horror genre. What you were expecting from a nearly twenty year old franchise? I'm seriously surprised they haven't gone to space with Ju-on. Honestly, this one isn't as bad as the cool kids will lead you to believe. It honestly tells a really nice ghost story with some pretty credible folks infront and behind the camera

Overall, though, the director and co-writer’s merciless style is muffled by The Grudge’s over-reliance on clichéd jump scares; more damningly, only some of these are effective, even in terms of cheap thrills. This becomes especially true in the film’s second half, when the ghosts become at once more human and less creepy.
Potentially interesting religious and philosophical dimensions – novenas in the dashboard, Jesus on the telly, the notion that the ghost evidences an afterlife – are swiftly discarded by this wholly redundant reboot.
The movie's attempts to expand The Grudge's mythology generally don't work, and its stabs at being grittier and more realistic than the films before it are undone by its over-reliance on bloodshed and just plain unpleasant details for shock value.
Nearly devoid of scares for the casual horror consumer, it will likely elicit a respectful dismissal from genre connoisseurs: "We get what you're trying to do," they might gently say to the filmmakers. "It didn't work."
I saw this movie in the middle of the day, having had a great night’s sleep, and I had to slap myself awake a few times.
¡Me gustó! Esperaba una basura pero quedé ampliamente satisfecho. Tiene más pinta de Thriller que de Horror, pero los momentos adecuados son bastante siniestros y explícitamente violentos, cosa que no se vio en la versión del 2004, obviamente no es ni la mitad de buena que la versión japonesa del 2002, pero definitivamente es superior a la insípida adaptación estadounidense del 2004
Buena atmósfera, actuaciones aceptables y favorablemente diferente en cuanto a su historia y desarrollo, pudo ser mejor sin duda alguna pero quedé conforme con lo que vi.

It's not great and it rains a lot. Sometimes it looks real, sometimes it looks like a massive sprinkler. Certainly not as good as the first two American versions. Arguably better than the third American film. The Japanese series has so many I not even going to draw any comparisons there. The first three credits were the same guy, he must be proud lol. The use of negative space, the sound design and the cinematography overall are excellent. The final 20 minutes are thrilling. I did prefer it when it was creepy Japanese children rather than Jason Vorhees looking guys. This is very disappointing. The original films were entertaining but not the best, this is just uneven, I don't think it'll appeal to new buyers and it certainly won't reinvigorate the series. Bring on the inevitable next reboot.
