I pretty much loved it. It's a wonderful New York story but very much a movie that requires you to listen -- rather than watch for thrills. But if you let it in, it will deliver especially during it's final touching last moments. I've seen both New York casts when this was a stage musicalI pretty much loved it. Even if this doesn't go down in cinema history as a great musical, it's certainly well worth a watch and a listen. Perfect for musically inclined individuals.

An old story line done differently, the dialogue is sung. Also done in flashback, although not chronologically, so it was hard to tell where in the time line you were sometimes. I didn't know Anna Kendrick could sing; I still don't. Did she pay for this movie? I still don't get the storyAn old story line done differently, the dialogue is sung. If this movie was done straight up, probably a 5 or 6; I gave them kudos for trying a couple of different approaches.… Expand

It's an interesting concept: 2 actors sing solos about their relationship over 5 years. Her story runs backward from the end, while his starts at the beginning. They intersect in the only duet, their marriage. They both sing well and act effectively, but the direction by Richard LaGravenese doesn't add anything especially interesting (sometimes the handheld work is distracting). This film has appeared without fanfare and will leave the same way, but it holds appeal for those who appreciate tuneful songs, endless solos and a thorny romantic story. It's a good musical, but Jordan felt miscast and Kendrick's voice isn't strong enough. And I know nothing about directing, but the direction was weird

The Last Five Years is arguably the worst movie I've seen in many years. Both leads with their obnoxious signing and terrible chemistry make for one agonizing experience.
