The Mitchells vs the Machines is like an encounter with a sentient doodle pad, crammed with ideas that might be the cleverest things anyone’s ever thought of, or the most ludicrous, or probably a jumble of both.

On paper, The Mitchells appears to be a disjointed mashup of genres — the road movie, the father-daughter drama and the man-versus-machine sci-fi thriller — but the filmmakers nicely integrate all the elements with consistently funny jokes and the careful development of the Mitchell family members.

If I had been in a different mood, I might have appreciated the humor more. As it is, “The Mitchells vs. The Machines” was an adequate movie that tries really hard, so that is worth something. I give it a C, if you've already seen the best, but you insist on watching a movie, try this one out.

Has some really strong moments but is ruined by some extremely annoying attention seeking characters. The creators are begging to keep your attention with loud noises, wacky colours, and quirky characters.
