The movie's fun, a lot of it having nothing to do with its specific subject.
The hint at disagreement among the performers about who can and cannot call themselves Muslim is particularly provocative — a debate that would have been better off played out on-screen rather than summarized after the fact.
Although not wholly successful in its sociological aspirations, the film does provide both considerable laughs and food for thought.
Muslim comics are correct about not needing to defend their faith in post-9/11 America. Their patriotism is not the point. I just wish they told better jokes.
I kept expecting Sacha Baron Cohen to traipse onto the scene. Alas, he doesn’t.
Despite their supposedly good intentions, the comedian-filmmakers broach the doc's central subject with crass and offensive standup routines that wouldn't be out of place on the Blue Collar Comedy Tour.
This well-intentioned “docu-comedy” (as the filmmakers label it in publicity notes) is not very funny.
