Buried under a mound of haunted house cliches is a creepier, more sophisticated movie about the sexual power of teenage girls, and their fathers’ inability to comprehend, clambering to get out.
Unfortunately, Berdejo doesn't seem to know the difference between "slow" and "suspenseful," erring on the side of the former far too frequently. It's mostly formulaic fare, too.

I hesitated to pick this film up at the local video store--the synopsis made it sound run-of-the-mill haunted house/family in peril fare. Sure enough, the initial moments of the movie proved me correct. But midway through, something happened. Aside from being well-acted from top to bottom (and I'm no Kevin Costner fan), the direction, lack of cheap gore, and genuine atmosphere of dread grabbed me. This is a film that creates terror not by constantly throwing "boo!" moments at its audience, but one that plays off the modern horror found in the demise of the "safe" family. No one knows how to protect their children any more. And this leads to one of the most horrific endings I've seen in years. Don't pass this one by. Will it change your life? Certainly not, but it's a heckuvalot better than most of the crap masquerading as horror fare that gets a theatrical release these days...

It is a great creep out of hell idea, done terrible, this is what this movie is, it starts familiar, gone bad, the worse, then...TERRIFYING, the acting was bad compared to other horror with kids like signs, the pacing is so BAD! Good God, I wanted to turn of that movie! But the near ending sequences stopped me and interested me, the ending was great, for me, but, for the last part I would've give it 10, but I need to judge the movie as whole so I say 5.5 out of 10, 2/5 and 49 out of 100

Kevin Costner starrer boasts an impressive English-language debut from Spanish teenager Ivana Baquero ("Pan's Labyrinth") and a well-constructed first half, but its many cliches begin to undo its spell long before a ridiculous third act squanders all remaining goodwill.
Actually, the movie was not bad. The plot is quite simple and it's about a divorced father moved with his two kids to an isolated house which unknowingly haunted by Indian spirits. It's not as horror as I thought but it's creepy enough. I'd say It's a mixture of M. Night Shyamalan (beginning to the middle part of the movie) and Stephen King (the middle towards the end).

The New Daughter is is a mixed bag, it is a stereotypical story on top of cliched moment after cliched moment, but they are all well done an the ending is a nice surprise.

The New Daughter is a film that contains good actors, but the film is slow at showing the true horrors attacking the house. The only character i cared for throughtout the entire film is, big shocker the daughter. Kevin Costner character is an unlikable character to me who is sometimes making poor decisions in the film. For example, spoiler!, theres a scene where he wants to get out the car without a gun to investigate a body Being **** cop saves Costner from being a dimwitted cliche by telling him to stay in the car. Seconds later the Cop turns into in oxymoron by sticking his head out and gets dragged out the car window by a mound creature. And the ending will make you scratch your head.

The movie is very slow, sometimes even boring. Yet I watched the movie till the end. Hoping that the ending will reward my time I spent watching this movie. But I was wrong, it goes from mysterious to just plain silly and dumb.

Was initially intrigued by the idea of Kevin Costner in a horror film. But the story was just plain awful. Why does single, sensitive dad not catch on sooner to the fact that something is wrong? Why does the young actress who plays his daughter have such trouble expressing anything but dullness? What's with the excessive growling, screeching and other predictably scary noises? And what was Kevin thinking when he signed on? If they pay me, I will come? Many funny Costner quotes may pass through the viewer's mind as s/he watches this disappointing flick. They could've titled it something like Dances With Voles. Yuk.
