AlsoWell the Conjuring Universe is back with yet another money making spinoff, everyone's favourite Nun Valak. So come on down to Romania's scariest castle, join The Nun and all her nun friends in one of this years most over the top horrors. Also featuring a priest with a haunted past, a young nun on the verge of making her final vows and a Frenchman who's just there for plot reasons. Sent by the Vatican to investigate the mysterious death of a young nun at a cloistered abbey in Romania. Together they confront a malevolent force in the form of The Nun.

Get ready for 96 minutes of creepy exterior shots of the scary castle, then cut to the scary foggy woods surrounding the castle and then to the scary graveyard in the grounds of the castle. It doesn't take long for The Nun to show up to scare you over and over again. It's so in your face constantly, practically grabbing you and screaming in your face in the hope of scaring you. Repetitive and predictable to the point of boredom. The Nun growling at you and then chasing you down a scary candle lit corridor and repeat. Again and again, just when you think the jump scares are over..Bang oh there's the Nun again growling in the corner but oh she has all her nun mummy friends with her too. Oh now she's in the mirror, no wait she's behind you. Yawn, this was a tedious mess. The Conjuring movies are entertaining "you get what you pay for" horrors whereas their spinoffs Annabelle and now The Nun are unnecessary horror movies based around minor characters in the Conjuring Universe, nobody asked for their own movie or origin story. We don't really care where they came from to be honest. They showed up in the Conjuring, did their thing and that's it. We don't need to know how the Nun came to be or who she's killed along the way, not everything needs an explanation. Just take a look at what Prometheus/Alien Covenant did to the franchise. Just because the Nun got some good scares in The Conjuring 2 doesn't mean the same will translate into a single movie. So please Conjuring Universe can you stop with the spinoffs, somehow they're getting worse. Enough. Not recommended, avoid or face the consequences.

The Conjuring was great. Unfortunately this "prequel" failed to amaze me! So full of cliches and cringy scenes that i feel sorry for my wasted time. If you're a fan of the true cinema - look elsewhere.

The cast was good, The atmosphere was right and the story was reasonable but the Nun was just another predictable and repetitive addition to the Conjuring series. And the heavy reliance on jump scares really brings it down IMO.

'The Nun' basically ties into the Conjuring series, by taking a look at one of the "demons" that have been threatening the Warrens ever since the first movie.

What could have been one of the most interesting and unique movies in the series ends up being a slow, crappy, unenthusiastic cash grab. Besides loosely connecting the movie to the first one at the very beginning and at the end, there is almost nothing to be seen of the Warrens. As a matter of fact, the footage that is seen, is all recycled from the first film.

That in itself, wouldn't have been terrible, if the writers and directors for the film had made any attempt at all to actually do some creative writing. The scenes are all over the place, very little of the film makes sense, most of the major characters show very little common sense in the film and the movie does absolutely nothing to try and explain where 'The Nun' came from other than the fact it is sheer evil.

Only to twist the dagger even deeper in the wound, instead of actually having part of the movie explore the possession of "Frenchy" and further explore one of the stories of the Warrens, in a extreme case of laziness, they simply use more recycled footage from the first film to reference the possession. I honestly don't know what happened, The Conjuring was one of the best horror movies I've seen in years and then suddenly all of the other movies after that are simply lazy, crappy, cash cows that do as little as possible to make any sort of attempt at being redeemable films.

Film makers and writers pay close attention, this is how you quickly kill a new promising franchise like The Conjuring.

There's been already five films inside this cinematic universe and only two have been worth. I'll say two and a half good films, Annabelle 2 wasn't that bad but Annabelle and now The Nun, are nothing terrible horror films that offer nothing more than cheap scares and I'm honestly tired of it.

A completely misguieded effort.

Vow To No More Wow.

The Nun

Hardy's drama is, yes, scary, but also comes with a ton of baggage that cannot be negotiated. This is what I have loved and flinched about this franchise, it dares constraint the all mighty power- "God Ends Here" it whispers- but fumbles to prove it. This mixed feeling is what's left in your hand at the end of the exorcism, is it a marketing tease or inadequacy, only God knows; if it is in its territory. The knack for drawing out humor and delivering cliched cinematic dialogues in an extremely tensed environment disenchants the viewers from its dark perilous vision and compromises the quality.

Antics are smart enough to scar you let alone scare you, but as much as gripping as these sequences are, the build up of them aren't weaved out with clean execution, there is a lot of uncertainty in their own laws, the mythology lacks the malleability to blatantly announce or demand their rights. This installment is the most animated of all, and surprisingly the scariest of all, the neat environment and the poised nature of the demons is something to be inspired from.

The real culprit is the predictability of the film, not for the characters, but for the sequences that the maker loves immensely, it aches you to see someone with so much effort working on one big hokum. There is no other room for the cast to invest, it is all Farmiga, from the curse to the blessing. If this is a horror served us by the makers, she comes off as the impenetrable beauty, the kryptonite to the evil, her performance justifies all the work done by her elder sister in previous installments. The Nun is worthy of a vow as far as thrills are concerned, drama has to be searched for and later be disappointed by.

Such a disappointment compared to the other films in this universe.
The Nun is a boring and formulaic horror film that relies too heavily on jump scares.
At no point do you care about the characters or fear they may be in danger.
Not worth your time.

There were nothing memorable about the characters, except for their dumbwitted decisions and motives throughout their stay in the abbey. With all honesty, Valak rules over Annabelle, The Crooked man, and Bathsheba in so many levels. Hence, the film should have leveled with Valak's superiority. Expand

However, if you enjoy a good scary movie, this is also not the movie for you. The Nun is a movie that relies heavily on cheap jump scares (ones not even delivered well) and seems to just drag on, mostly because of side plot(s) that add little to nothing to the movie other than a padded runtime. There were some decent visuals throughout the movie that grab your interest, but mostly it just goes through the scary movie cliches checklist. And why in these movies do these evil demons from hell mess with everyone like some bad prankster? Overall, The Nun was a poorly told scary movie, that really wasn't that scary. Expand

Poor entry in this horror franchise . Probably was made in a single weekend with 10 actors in an abandoned church for a few thousand dollars by the looks of it.
Like an old joke...."a priest a nun and a frenchman go into this church see....."
Poor entry in this horror franchise . Probably was made in a single weekend with 10 actors in an abandoned church for a few thousand dollars by the looks of it.
Like an old joke...."a priest a nun and a frenchman go into this church see....." and stuff starts happening.
There is no actor chemistry,no backstory on the characters , a few attempted jokes that don't work.
The priest is really lame for someone who's supposed to be an experienced demonologist. The nuns are forgettable.
The villain could be a plastic construction and has no personality. Best thing about it is the church itself .
Can't recommend paying for this.Wait and netflix it .

Que vergüenza de película, nada original, que guion tan malo y tan mal contado, los actores supremamente faltos de carisma y de talento, cuando se recurre a la comedia mediocre para rellenar estas películas se sabe que son una mierda
