Even as you're wincing at what you thought was misguided earnestness, it's being subverted by filmmakers who've turned many of the genre's weaknesses into tiny triumphs.
I really liked this movie. It brought a new spin from the original while still maintaining the essence of a revenge movie. Both films were very enjoyable and I got what I asked for in a sequel, a lot of the same with a new coat of paint. If you loved the first one and are hoping for something completely different you will be disappointed.
This is a guilty pleasure of mine. I know it's bad, I know it was an unecessary sequel, that no one was asking for, but I think it's a movie that is so bad, it's good. I do enjoy this movie.
The original "Carrie'' worked because it was a skillful teenage drama grafted onto a horror ending. Also, of course, because De Palma and his star, Sissy Spacek, made the story convincing. The Rage: Carrie 2 is more like a shadow.
Maybe there's a real use for Carrie 2 after all. Stand it up against the original, and you have a pretty good lesson in what's happened to the movies in the last couple of decades.
So I saw this film in theaters when it was first released in 1999. Despite the overall quality of it, I really connected to it. I found Rachel played by the than unknown Emily Bergyl ( Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to be very relatable. And the whole love affair with football stud Jessie played by a sexy Jason London to be quite the tragedy like Romeo and Juliet. I was also obsessed with the finale look and even copied it into a boy version for Halloween that year. Also I was bullied alot in school and really liked how she got back at all the kids who tortured her. That being said watching it all these years later. I find it kind of lifetime moviesh. It's a bad film with decent performances and a super bad ass finale which has Rachel's tattoo growing into a sort of tribal vine that flows with her power. The religious stuff feels a little forced as does the Sue character which Amy Irving reprises. It doesn't come close to being anywhere near it's Superior predecessor but it doesn't feel completely unnecessary. I do feel like it was a decent effort to explore the teen angst of it's time period but none of the characters or storyline are fleshed out enough to be truly memorable. As it stands, it's a somewhat entertaining, overly mediocre genre flick of the 90s.
3/5
Making a sequel to a famous movie shouldn't be only an excuse to make a movie but that's what we have here. "Carrie" was a remarkable film when it debuted but was being forgotten over time. This was a sequel attempt but any resemblance to "Carrie" is mere coincidence, as it repeats the same story with another girl, Rachael Lang, blending everything with the usual ingredients of the obnoxious teen movies. And just like "Carrie" or any slasher teen movie, everything ends in carnage, with gore to the liking of teenagers without brains and who use their genitals to think. Boring and predictable are two adjectives we can use for it Frankenstein plot, as strange as the breeding of a mare with a zebra. The ending is rather exaggerated and forced. The main character, Rachael, never really gets connected with the public, so her life or death is something that doesn't bother us. The film makes a lot of effort to look scary but it's like a magician show: huge show off that brings nothing new. The actors aren't necessarily good but their work is OK. Conclusion: Its a teenage film that is on the borderline between mediocre and bearable, using the fame of an old film in an inglorious way.
I give 2 for this movie it wasn't too bad to be a Sequel and Carrie 2013 is the same movie as Carrie 2002 Bad acting and i'm sure they make another remake movie of Carrie in 4 years
