A slick, glossy multi-character soap opera set in London's airport.
This has suspense, conflict, romance, comedy and drama. Its main fault is that some of the characters and the by-plots are not developed enough. But that is a risk inevitable in any film in which a number of strangers are flung together, each with problems and linked by a single circumstance.
The V.I.P.s is, gratifyingly, a lively, engrossing romantic film cut to the always serviceable pattern of the old multi-character Grand Hotel, and some of the other people in it are even more exciting than the two top stars.
The performances are all reasonably enjoyable, but it's the sort of film the British cinema could well do without.
Miss Taylor needs something stronger than this to display her talents, and so does Burton.
It is rubbish, and whereas Taylor’s playing can sometimes redeem utter nonsense, it doesn’t quite manage it here.
