Nobody reigned in the director. It is a bad parody of a Thor movie. When they got to the shadow realm I realized that we were in fact watching a what we do in the shadows movie rather than a marvel movie.

Terribly unfunny, doesn’t take itself seriously even if it tries to and it just proves to me that Taika Waititi has been overrated from the get-go.

This movie makes Multiverse Of Madness look like a masterpiece.

This might be the worst of them and that is saying something considering that Eternals exists. The tone of the movie is all over the place and the humor mostly misses (or is something a 7 year old would find funny) . Everything just felt forced and they also turned Thor into a buffoon. The only redeeming quality to the film was the performance of Christian Bale. I think this is the last Marvel movie I am going to see - just a waste of $$$ at this point. Expand

A four hour movie that was tossed into a blender and only two hours were poured out, without bothering to make them coherently connect. If you can think, then almost everything in the movie makes no sense, especially the big threat which invalidates Infinity War/Endgame. Typical MCU, where canon and continuity are not part of the FRANCHISE so nothing can make sense, and there are no stakes. Jane's entire power explanation is laughably bad, and contradicts what Odin said in Ragnarock. I guess Taika could not even remember his previous Thor movie... But at least he will win the Oscar for the most useless exposition in a movie. Expand

I love Marvel movies but this one missed the mark by a mile. Only good part was the soundtrack. Two great Thor comic stories turned into the dumbest least funny movie Marvel has made. Thor 2 seems Oscar worthy by comparison and it was bad.

At the same time I feel its certainly not the worst of the Thor movies sorry Dark World. Was interesting that Marvel didn't take the easy way out I was expecting them to with Jane near the end. Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman were great in this. Where the movie falls down is it gets very cartoonish with its humor there were some parts that made laugh admittedly but unfortunately a lot more parts that made me cringe and took me out of the story. Christian Bale did what he could with Gore but his arc felt a bit rushed and not fleshed out. Zeus felt like more of a punchline rather than a powerful god it was like the parts that should have been serious in the movie couldn't be as the movie was sort of stuck in cartoon mode. Overall there is certainly enough to enjoy in this movie but it struggles to balance humor with serious parts was great to see the guardians though. Expand

I definitely am not going to take my son for this one - was going to because were both fans of Ragnarok and Taika is the director there too. I'm not a conservative nut job and am generally open minded but I fail to see why sexual references (hetero or otherwise) need to be in a movie like this. It's just jarring. It could have been a much better movie had they just dialed down all the weirdness. Expand

The movie is criminally unserious it’s a **** joke. Gorr knocks it out the park from the jump but as soon as the Marvel Studios logo rolls it’s all downhill from there, tonally. Thor and co. are written like an actual Muppets skit, complete with fighting literal Muppets within the first 10 minutes. Star-Lord gives this unusually out of character and frankly garbage pep talk to Thor that doesn’t really pay off at all when Thor recants it to Jane later in the movie.

For the great execution Christian Bale gives Gorr, he does ZERO God-Butchering in this film outside of the 5 minute prologue. They literally find out about this guy from a space Fox 5 broadcast labeling him Gorr The God Butcher while cutting through slides of dead god bodies.

Janes’ handling is great overall I think, but Marvel clearly cannot keep things interesting inflicting trauma on woman characters. Post-credit stuff was great though so I’m cautiously optimistic.

Overall this movie felt entirely disrespectful to Thor fans, like a parody Monty Python-ification of the typical slate of MCU one-liners and gags. Decent action sets and rare moments held intensely together by Christian Bale alone don’t save what is otherwise the weakest entry of Phase 4 without a doubt and possibly my least favorite MCU movie of all time.

If seen as a comedy, this movie feels like a joke that its missing its "second act", it goes from the set-up straight to the punchline.
But since the movie is trying to sell a dramatic story, you have to judge it for that, and it becomes plain terrible.
Christian Bale is, by far, the best thing in the movie, but he is barely in it, in a movie that is clearly missing A LOT of footage, which also makes it incomprehensible at times.

Hard to believe this was made by the same people that made Ragnarok.

With the exception of Loki, it doesn't seem like it's going to be very clear where this story is headed and Thor: Love and Thunder won't be the one to explain it to you.

This is a story that stands on its own, but that has caused it to fall short in that regard and also fall short for the long run because it doesn't seem that it has any kind of usefulness in the grand scheme of things.

I've never had a problem with the humor in the MCU, I'm not a sourpuss, but Taika Waititi turned this film into nothing more than a succession of gags that make of Thor a joke and all the other characters, have to follow his stupidity.

Natalie Portman shines in her best moments, but her story arc is only a step for the climax and closure of Thor's storyline.
Tessa Thompson is only there because the story cast her as the King of Asgard while once again Marvel wastes an excellent actor like Christian Bale on a villain who in the comics was epic, but in the film gets severely overlooked.

Thor: Love and Thunder is colorful piece of work that functions more as a comedy than a superhero film and gets lost in the grandiloquence of its own conceit, while offering nothing for the character or the rest of the MCU.
It's one of the weakest entries of the franchise and a major disappointment for the character.

At the end of the credits we find the usual caption: ''Thor will return''. If so, what Marvel desperately needs to do is take him off Waititi's hands

In total honesty, gone are the days where I'd become excited and overjoyed for the newest MCU film. In my eyes, the MCU's golden age ended with 'Avengers: Endgame' and it just hasn't been the same since. For the most part, we've been plagued with films that simply feel like obvious afterthoughts or expertly-written epilogue fanfiction at best, and this one is no exception. Riddled with an absurd amount of corny moments including but not limited to flying/screeching Taylor Swift goats, Thor riding his Stormbreaker axe like a witch on a broomstick, Thor caught in a jealousy love triangle with his old hammer MjoInir and his Stormbreaker axe and talking to them quite often throughout the film, random accents galore (Valkyrie now suddenly has a British accent and Russell Crowe's Zeus's accent is beyond silly, all over the place, and impossible to pinpoint), etc. The list goes on and on. Not even the performances can really save this one, as Hemsworth remains charming yet goofy to a fault in this one, and Bale's Gorr simply loooked and felt like a Voldemort ripoff. For me, the film's biggest standout star was Portman's Mighty Thor. Watching her carry the hammer and kicking ass was incredibly fun and satisfying to watch. The Guardians of the Galaxy also make a brief appearance at the beginning of the film that felt fun but mostly rushed and wasted unfortunately. Like I said before, the story and writing simply feels like fanfiction material at this point in the MCU and the stakes and emotions never feel as high anymore. So overall, while it's big, bright, and does have its fair share of enjoyable action sequences and a solid action performance from Portman in particular, this 'Thor' still feels like too much of a burnout like the rest of Phase 4 of the MCU has felt so far for the most part and is simply just a jumbled and corny mess. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoilers: If you haven't seen a marvel movie about a character who is corrupted by an ambiguously ancient evil that uses them for their own goals of destroying the universe in the last month, this movie might be worth a watch. Bringing back Natalie Portman just to have her be a former/current love interest and die so Thor learns a lesson feels like a misplay. Gorr as a character is utterly wasted and putting his quest tied to a universal threat takes away from what could have been an interesting revenge story that was teased by Thor and Eteri's interaction in Infinity War. Some of the 80s metal homages are cool but it's not enough to save the movie. Expand

(Mighty Thor as a name sucks, its just the dudes name, not a mantle). easily the best part of the movie was Christian bale as Gorr the god butcher, without going into spoilers, his story is amazing, his character is menacing and steals every scene he's in, his motivations make sense, and the prologue at the begining of the movie with him in it is great.
my main issue with the movie is its jarring changes between the funny scenes and the gorr scenes, and the other issues that come with the movies rather short runtime. i feel the transitions of feel would have been fixed with something like a mere 3 minutes more of runtime. i feel that the jane foster plotline could have been at least a little more fleshed out instead of dumped into 2 minutes at act 3. tessa thompson's valkarie was underused as well, and an already great scene at the beginning of act 3 would have been much better if she was given even a scene of her own. Gorr also should have just had more scenes, would have loved to see him more

overall, a great movie, best mcu project of phase 4 (fight me), though it could have been an amazing movie if its runtime were bumped up a bit

Despite the fact that the film was supposed to be a comedy because of how the character has been treated lately turning him into a clown, it has drama, action and epicness... And a lot of love. The villain is well-constructed, his origin-to-end story arc is very good, though I'm sure comic book lovers will say he sucks. The scene with the empowered children was a perfect touch. Using Zeus for the issue of inclusion and progressivism was funny, not forced at all; and the thing about Korg makes sense because he's just rocks. The Jane Fonda arc... I mean, Jodie Foster... I mean, Jane Foster and what she did at the end was fine, and the scene with Thor was very emotional and deep. Taika Waititi definitely convinced me this time, he gave us a good installment.

The mid-credit scene was very interesting, let's see what happens with Thor's future, and the post-credit scene was satisfactory.

This is a perfect "Thor" Movie - Read your comic books people
[no spoilers] More proof “Critics” are no longer the arbiters of quality just harbingers of their own idiotic ideals of what their hubris thinks the movie should have been. This film is one incredible entertaining cinematic adventure. #nevertrustacritic

Tl;dr - it’s funny, well told and touching, leave your expectations or preconceived feelings at home as it will entertain you in different ways to the first. Enjoy the most pure Thor story experience you’ll find ever. Must watch. From the source material and quality of story telling this is possibly the best tale of Thor that has ever existed. Thematically, tonally, comically, and the eccentricity are Thor at his best. Waititi as a writer and director taking his second stab, no only did the source material and story justice, but made a collective work of cinematic entertainment that was just exceptional. Waititi’s uncanny ability to make the 6 y/o me say “that’s soooo cooool” is on full display for you to have an absolute blast. This epic was really a comedy at heart and had its harder hitting moments too. Come with no expectation and you’ll have a blast!

To the nay sayers - “you brought your expectations didn’t you?” Tut tut. Thinking back, to all the ground breaking earth shattering first moments that the previous film had for things that had never been done. If you come back to this film expecting the same thing, you may not understand how when you break Thor’s hammer if you do it again, it’s not going to affect you the same way. For Waititi to come back after shattering all conventions in the previous film and to find new ways to delight and inspire is incredible. This film will not give you the same feeling because the conventions have been shattered, just as the next spider man won’t if they bring Toby and Andrew back. Any one with those expectations I say leave it at home with any other unreasonable expectation that you may have. For people with tone whiplash? Are you kidding me? How long does someone need to telegraphy a moment for you to ease into it? Should the play a 15minute number to get you into the mood or should the just get down the the business of telling the story? For anyone who believes it’s over the top, CLEARLY doesn’t know Thor comics or understand the Marvel Universe. This is par for the course! If you look at this film objectively it is extraordinarily well told in its beats, the moments it creates, and the depth of journey it takes you on.

The MCU is back before us with more content that we’ve been clamoring for. This movie follows Thor as he enlists the help of King Valkyrie, Bestie Korg and ex-girlfriend, Jane Foster, to fight Gorr the God Butcher, who intends to make all of the gods extinct.

You know with these MCU movies we have to talk about the storyline and the bigger picture. First, a newbie could definitely just watch this movie and not be completely lost about what’s going on. As Korg narrates at key points in the movie, he’s able to bring us all up to speed. Secondly, I’m no comic book expert but to me this movie doesn’t move the universe along that much if at all, which is good. I feel everyone is too wrapped up in how it plays into the phases and multiverse and blah blah blah, which just causes people to not be immersed in and entertained by the product in front of them (*cough cough* alluding to what people did to the Dr. Strange movie but no one asked me, so I’ll move on). Lastly, this movie is full of heart. Thor, Jane, and Gorr will pull on your heartstrings throughout in unexpected ways. While some of their plot points weren’t fully fleshed out, I recognize that it’s hard to make these movies feel important after the emotional depth in Endgame. Nevertheless, Taika’s direction and the writing definitely tried their best to fill the movie with heart and humor. Let’s move on to the cast.

Christian Bale does his thing as Gorr. He’s so creepy in this. Bale has a way of slithering across the screen and being menacing even though he’s not necessarily physically imposing. Marvel could’ve taken this to the next level in dastardliness, but it seems like the MCU is building to an overarching Big Bad and don’t yet want to give us that Thanos-like figure. Who knows? We may have seen that Big Bad already, but the MCU hasn’t truly featured them yet. Anyway! Thor, on the other hand, while goofy and fun, campy, and still beastly, he does come off a bit too corny. And, it’s hard to say because some of the exact same moments are definitely going to be moments that people enjoy. The same goes for Korg as well. Taika does a great job voicing Korg, but at times it’s a bit much or unnecessary. The fact that he narrates a lot of the movie could be a turn off to viewers. Korg is great in small pebbles but the whole rock mound gets a bit annoying. Our friend, Jane Foster can be annoying too but her bash head Thor-ness is definitely fun to watch. Marvel definitely found a way to make Jane come into her own and not just as a Thor carbon copy, which I enjoyed. I wish I could say the same for Valkyrie. They didn’t really let my girl Tessa really shine in this movie. After Ragnarok, I think we wanted that boss chick featured again. Unfortunately, she was more of a bell and whistle than a co-star. Those are the people you come to see but there are a bunch of small characters that either melt your heart, annoy you a bit, make you laugh, or want to see more of. Srangely that mixture, actually gives a movie life. It’s just Marvel doing Marvel things making you want more.

Long story short, Thor: Love and Thunder while maybe not Ragnarok doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Marvel, Taika and Kevin Feige just continue a strong MCU/Thor Franchise. This movie will make you laugh, hold on to your seat, awe at the action, suck back thug tears and more. Thor gets a bit corny but not enough to make me say don’t see Bale’s creepy Gorr the God Butcher. Love and Thunder will make loud noise in the theaters so grab that big box of fresh popcorn and enjoy.

I think part of the issue is that you have to have expectations that are appropriate to the movie you are going to see. If you're a critic then sure... you can compare this to a Mona Lisa visual novel... but its a Marvel movie. They have fully established a set of expectations for their movies in general. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The movie was bad. I had so many expectations considering how the third installment in Thor was but this was just bad.

The movie tried to add a lot of jokes like Ragnarok but compared to it the jokes here failed, most of them were just lame, to say the least. Then the arcs of the movie were not good, the emotional ending of Jane did not hit well tbh. THe story too was just bland and had nothing compared to it compared to recent MCU films which were plot stuff. The CGI too was bad and many parts could easily be told a green screen this is a big downstep from previous MCU films

But one major highlight from the film was Gorr. Bale just nailed the character he was scary and it was amazing, every moment of him on the screen was amazing. The scene where they fought for the hammer was beautifully done and acted. However he too deserved a deeper storyline on what happened to his daughter and more, it felt like the director was just trying for a shorter film tbh.

TBH an extremely disappointing marvel film only good thing was the fight for the hammer and Gorr, otherwise, it was just bad

And I thought Eternals was bad! Just when I reckoned Marvel movies couldn't get any worse, along came Thor: Love and Thunder. Wow, this Marvel phase of films has really sucked... please avoid this garbage at all costs!

How do you make Chris Hemsworth, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson and others look really bad on the silver screen? Simple, just employ Taika Waititi to direct another Thor movie. He really must have lucked out on Thor: Ragnarok, as this time around, his direction gives us a movie that falls flat from the opening scene and then manages to just about limp along, right till the very end, embarrassing all involved along the way.

As the credits rolled, my wife asked "did a five year old write this one?" I understood where she was coming from, but I believe five year olds have far superior imaginations to the creative team involved here. Bottom line, Thor: L&T is just a really bad movie, period! As the curtains close, it states, "Thor will return"... let's hope if that's the case, that Marvel has the good sense next time to go with another director.

George Clooney, finally I can forgive you for Batman and Robin.

Instead I'm forced to watch a beloved character dying of cancer. It makes no sense to me why they decided to do this. The film would have been better if Jane had been cured by the hammer and stayed a superhero. Do we have to have terminally ill people represented in films now? I came home with my girlfriend and we both sat in silence feeling miserable before arguing and going to bed. That's the effect it had on us. Thanks Taika. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Thor is basically a slapstick comedy. Every 20 seconds or so there is a joke of some kind. The goofiness is something one would expect in a Deadpool movie, but even the Deadpool movies are not this over the top with jokes. The God Butcher doesn't do anything like maybe butchering god's. How can you water down Thor? Give his power to about 30 kids and tell them to fight gor's universal threats. This is an example of letting a director do anything they want without correcting him before he drives a movie into the ditch. Expand

Marvel just needs to give up already. Their films have disgustingly saturated the modern-day market, and this is easily among the worst.

Weak story, weak ending, comedy and dialogue are super corny. I liked Ragnarok but this was just a B Movie with good actors and a high budget.

This is, where the MCU truely hits rock bottom, makes me wonder, if I have treated other movies too harshly. 80% of this abomination is a redefintion of the word "bad", you'll probably find the movie poster next to the word in the Oxford dictionary. 20% are quite good and have a redeeming quality, but that is not enough to save the movie. In fact, the good things make the bad ones worse and there are a lot of bad scenes.

The main problem is, at it's core Thor Love & Thunder is a very serious movie with some interesting, adult topics and a really great villain on top. Yet the movie decides to be a caricature of itself, constantly ridiculing itself and trying so hard be funny, you'll grind your teeth.

From a technical perspective the movie looks really bad and plain wrong. There are beautiful scenes, but most of the time you think you are watching a game lifestream. All in all, don't watch, or prepare to be disgusted.

The most forgettable and boring MCU entry yet. What a waste of time and talent.

If you only care about dumb fun, special effects, and jokes, you will probably love this movie. However, if you're a Marvel fan who is truly invested in these characters, their arcs, and their legacy, then this film is a complete slap in the face. This film felt more like a bad rom-com fanfiction rather than a quality, A-List Marvel film. Taiki takes characters with complex, deep arcs throughout the MCU timeline and treats them as nothing more than a laughingstock. This film revolves around the love of Thor's life slowly killing herself just to be with him one last time all while being hunted by a man who wants to kill Gods out of revenge for his dead daughter. The film's plot is incredibly dark and sad, yet we're expected to laugh at it. The opportunity for deep, developing moments for the characters and the villain in this story are thrown away for cheap gags.

The Guardians, Valkyrie, and Korg are completely useless to the storyline that it begs the question of whether they should even be in the film at all. Not only are they useless- the writers make them look completely pathetic and laughable as well. While the whole story is all about Thor and Jane, Taiki completely wasted the other characters and hurt their overall reputation and development. He turned them into characters they were never meant to be.

Taiki failed with this film. He does not manage to hold up to the bar that Ragnarok set whatsoever. There is no divide between serious plot progression and comedy and the writers show a complete lack of respect for the characters and their arcs. While there are some genuinely funny moments and entertaining scenes, the lack of effort put into the characters and their development is inexcusable.

This movie was horrible in every way possible, did not expect the whole movie to be a joke, even gorr's entire character was butchered. A huge failure imo and this is coming from a marvel fan.

I loved the previous Thor movies, and Ragnarok was hilarous and fun. This however, was really bad. I have a hard time understanding that the same person who made Ragnarok also made this. Where the jokes landed at the right time in RagnarokI loved the previous Thor movies, and Ragnarok was hilarous and fun. This however, was really bad. I have a hard time understanding that the same person who made Ragnarok also made this. Where the jokes landed at the right time in Ragnarok and were actually funny, in this movie it was the complete opposite. Korg became the new Jar Jar Binks, the romance with Jane drowned in "joke" after "joke, and the enemy never really felt like a real enemy (Bale did a great job tho). It just felt flat, boring and never engaging in any shape or form. Just a continous flow of stupid jokes 100% of the time and Thor - more than ever - felt like a clown, but now without the charm from the previous films. I dont know if its a sign of Marvel going downhill or just the director going overboard, but this was a real disappointment. Expand
