The special effects are scream-worthy, the gore is minimal and the humor has a folksy zing to it. [19 Jan 1990, p.1D]
Tremors gets its characters into a series of hopeless situations and then resolves these situations in unexpected ways. I tried to out-guess the movie and couldn't. The movie might be nothing more than light entertainment, but care and thinking clearly went into it. [19 Jan 1990, p.E1]

When it comes to creature features I don't think it can get any better than Tremors. The practical effects are clever to the point where it's hard not to believe this type of creature is an actual living thing. It's only the occasional physics-rejecting effect that makes it seem a bit off. But even those scenes bring so much to the movie that you can easily ignore it and just go with it.
If there ever was a perfectly cast movie, this has to be it. The cast is relatively small which makes it even more important for each character to work to their fullest potential. And each and every one of them do. Bacon undoubtedly brings a lot to the table, but I don't feel like the later movies would have lived up to the first even with Bacon in them. Tremors has a perfect script and perfect pacing. The later movies do not. Not hating on the later movies, as they do have some odd charm to them. But where Tremors is an almost perfect movie, the later movies are more like typical straight-to-VHS movies. They can entertain you, and that's it.
It's only this movie from the series I've re-watched countless times. I've seen the later ones, and did somewhat enjoy them. But they are nowhere near this one. This one is... Yes, Perfection.
I've watched this movie so many times I've lost count. Watching it while writing this review actually.

This is probably the first animal/creatures attacks human movie that all of the characters were not serious and i love it, they are fun, funny, and smart, Tremors is not taking a long time to finish, they didn't kill literally everybody, they're not stupid, they're not dumb, and i have a lot of fun yet very intense experience, we're talking about Ridley Scott's Alien, John McTiernan's Predator, Stephen King's Cujo, Hitchcock's The Birds and all of those animal/creatures attacks human movie, Tremors is the most fun of them all.

While liberally dosing the action with humor, Underwood is able to preserve an undertone of genuine menace and substantial suspense. His shooting style is clean and classical, distinguished by camera movements that emphasize the line of the action without becoming conspicuous in themselves.
Tremors is a delightful throwback to such '50s and '60s films as "Them," "The Deadly Mantis" and "Attacks" of both "The Giant Leeches" and "The Crab Monsters."
It's a zippy melodrama for small-town America and small-towners at heart: well-executed kitsch for audiences that will still be amused at the notion that the bugs are getting so big, they'll drag us all down.

Tremors wants to be funny, but it spends too much time winking at the audience. More than anything else, it looks like the sort of movie that might have been put together so that tourists visiting Universal Studios could see a movie being made.
Its a monster movie and one of the best. A very unique feel to it and is a genuine horror comedy. I am a fan of the series and was very happy to here that they've done a 5th. It has great pacing, great acting, good story and an identifying theme. There aren't many monster movies that have done 5 in a row all of which are very entertaining. If you like monster movies and haven't seen these yet then do yourself a favor and get them on blu-ray. It's worth it.

Very prime at its time, enjoyable, tense action-packed movie with amusing effects and awesome character. It's a classic.

Au menu dans ce navet insipide, Kevin Bacon (!) et Fred Ward le monsieur agent du effebi-aille avant qu'il ne devienne agent à plein temps, lorsqu'il était simple plouc avec son pote Kevin. En dehors de sa réalisation à deux balles et de ses effets qui coûtent encore moins cher, en dehors de son scénario mongolo dont on se demande à quel degré il se situe, force est de constater sa non-existence en tant que film puisqu'on ne voit pas de différence avec une heure et demi de parasites ou une heure et demi de l'écran noir d'une télé éteinte. On a vu d'ailleurs des télés se suicider pour moins que ça devant cette débilité de l'espace.
