The endearingly unique residents of Uglyville occasionally look to the sky above the town, where a new UglyDoll will appear and be embraced by the community. Moxy (Kelly Clarkson) loves her square-peg life in this round-hole town, but her curiosity about all things leads her to wonder if there's something - anything - on the other side of the mountain which nestles Uglyville. Moxy gathers a group of her closest friends and sets off to find what's on the other side. They discover another world - Perfection - a town where more conventional dolls are trained in protocols before they graduate and are sent to the "real" world to find the love of a child. In Perfection, Moxy and her crew are subject to the manipulations of Lou (Nick Jonas), the perfect doll in charge of training recruits. Here, the UglyDolls will confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don't have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most. I would say that this movie is for very young children and fans of Kelly Clarkson, Janelle Monae, or Nick Jonas, with apparently has no appeal beyond that. My expectations for this movie were not high. Despite its limits, Ugly Dolls is an oasis in a vast media desert dried of optimism. UglyDolls is cute and sweet with lovely rainbow colours, cheerful voice acting, and lots of fun songs. Remember people, it's aimed at kindergarteners, so it's not supposed to be really deep and groundbreaking, and it isn't. It's very simplistic storytelling with tame jokes. Very poor. Did not enjoy. This movie almost feels like there was no effort put into it whatsoever. They did know their audience was young children, and so they made it difficult to understand for mature people like me.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This movie would only be enjoyable to small children or those without the brain capacity to remember what just happened in the movie. Plagued by far too long musical sequences that are redundant and add very little to the movie. In addition it is far too predictable, and the plot of the movie is so thin that if one of the children who actually enjoyed this picture were to walk on it, it would shatter into a million pieces. Put it on for your children if you literally don’t care what they watch. Oh and the worst thing about all of it is that the whole purpose of the movie is to obviously sell toys.… Expand

This is basically Alibaba Pictures, STX Entertainment, and Reel FX Creative Studios collaborating to make a "refreshing" taste of "Troll Doll." Pixar can top this stuff for sure, and I have no interest in seeing it.
