Unbroken, is a cinematic scrapbook, a collection of well-composed scenes practically cut and pasted from “Memphis Belle,” “Chariots of Fire,” “Life of Pi” and “The Bridge on the River Kwai.” Unlike those other films, though, Angelina Jolie’s second effort as a director is more a series of similar events than a story, and lacks an underlying message except that torture hurts. It's handsomely mounted, well-cast, it looks so great . and it certainly conveys a true story worth telling. cinematographer Roger Deakins is exellent.

A phenomenal true story about Louie Zampirini. I love how it shows the brutality of the Japanese, which has unfortunately been ignored and downplayed from certain perspectives of history. It shows the strength of the men who had to endure unimaginable difficulties and came out of it legends.A phenomenal true story about Louie Zampirini. While Angelina Jolie's well acted Unbroken is a powerful portrayal of war, the movie is incohesive and fails to differentiate itself from other similar biopic.

It's effective, but went on way too long. Ultimately, it's about a man's stamina faced with overwhelming odds, but the film lacks the emotional power that would have made the suffering worth it.… Expand

Angelina botched this film. It had no inspiration, left out the last part of his life which was what I was looking to see. Instead I was stuck with what seemed like stock war film footage of being stranded at sea and brutality at a Japanese POW camp. How many times have you see that already?Angelina botched this film. It had no inspiration, left out the last part of his life which was what I was looking to see. Instead I was stuck with what seemed like stock war film footage of being stranded at sea and brutality at a Japanese POW camp. How many times have you see that already? Did she run out of budget and couldn't tell the post war part of life? What she did show was flat and motionless, no peaks, no valleys. A major disappointment.… Expand

Shocking. This is a terrible film. The story is interesting but I googled it after and obtained a more moving delivery. Boring to the point of ridiculous. Disappointing as it could have been better in the hands of a better film maker.
