"We don’t need funky tea to know what Ali is thinking; we just need Henson, who makes us care." ... Read full review

"The story is a lot harder on its female protagonist than the 2000 film was on its male equivalent. This makes a depressing amount of sense, given what women are up against in most workplaces. Henson’s Ali plays both the dramatic encounters and the slapstick opportunities for higher stakes than Gibson ever did." ... Read full review

"No, it’s not on a par with “Bridesmaids” or “Girls’ Trip.” The sentimental stuff, the piercing insights Ali picks up about men, are instantly forgettable. But Henson plays the hell out of this part, no subtlety allowed. " ... Read full review

"It tries to replicate the earlier film’s redemption arc, all the while proving that it is more than willing to adhere to the same double standards it ostensibly pokes fun at. " ... Read full review

"The concept of a woman being a “winner” and of being the best version of herself because she has a better understanding of “what men want”? That ain’t it. Say what you will about Nancy Meyers, but at least she knew that." ... Read full review

Henson plays a sports agent who's frustrated by lack of equity with the men...until she becomes able to read their minds. This gender switch on the Mel Gibson starrer makes a female empowerment statement, but offers little humor. Henson tries manically to be funny, but seldom succeeds. The best comic moments go to Tracy Morgan and they feel his adlibs. Anytime you see 10 writers in the credits is a sign that things aren't going well. Although there's plenty of energy, this is simply not amusing. The outtakes during the credits provide the most fun. Expand

I was dragged to see this as my friends were too afraid to watch "us" and similarly this film felt like a drag at points as well. The story was ok in an unoriginal way, we all knew what was going to happen immediately when the story line was set up. Actually, the whole movie was predictable. My main concern was the jokes, or rather lack thereof, it seriously doesn't qualify as a comedy but instead should be called light hearted. I also believe that overacting or being so exaggerated to the point of becoming a caricature is not enough to make a film funny. Taraji is ok, she has found a niche, and works tight within it, she is likeable but doesn't quite save the film. The film is littered with irrelevant characters and we don't really care what they do let alone what they think, especially when they are treated as a crude opportunity to say a joke that doesn't really land. This film is very shake and go; where its formulaic approach ruins the film. Expand

Yeah, it's not working.

Mel Gibson may be an **** but it was an **** with charisma in that film. Taraji P. Henson isn't but a shadow of what the role needed it to be.
