The film is charming and warm-hearted, much like Paddington and its sequel, and the onscreen delight is infectious.
Wonka is, in fact, a lively, winsome pleasure, a film decidedly aimed at children that nonetheless incorporates some dark matter.

“Wonka” is a movie that illustrates the importance of teamwork. Willy Wonka’s journey reminds us the audience that sometimes success could be a result from working with others as a team. The movie nicely shows how it is possible for people to achieve more when they collaborate rather than working alone.

This movie is sO fun!! I, like many others I'm sure (according to the bad reviews I'm finding) was so hung up on the original(s) but I hAd fight for this movie! I can say it is the absolute best. I loved every bit of it. It is not based on the book, of course. Go watch the Gene Wilder version of that's what you're looking for. This is a re-imagination of a young Wonka full of hope and dreams - loving and helping people along the way. Funny, heartfelt, colorful, can be enjoyed by kids and adults. Again, absolutely brilliant.

It's as enthusiastic yet inscrutable as Wonka himself, played with an elegantly withholding quality by Chalamet, who in moments of quiet contemplation and madcap inspiration could be Gene Wilder's long-lost grandchild.
Wonka’s throwback charms make a striking enough impression, especially with Chalamet in the role, that the idea of another musical Wonka adventure isn't at all objectionable. If, that is, they skip the fat suit next time.
This is an eminently pleasant movie, propped up by its indefatigable good cheer and King’s immaculately tidy craftsmanship.
The movie is overly busy, as these kinds of eager-to-please diversions tend to be, and at two hours it overstays its welcome.
Young audiences may well be enchanted, but I’m sad to report I found the whole confection sickly sweet and hopelessly twee.
Loved this movie! It’s great to see a family movie without cursing and violence. It broke back a lot of memories from the Wonka movie classic from the 70’s. Timothee did a great job, this made him a star!

Does anybody really believe that Timothy C can carry a project with his acting talent? Because from what I’ve seen, the plot around his characters has to be the main attraction because he just isn’t believable.

Watched this with my (28M) partner (26F) yesterday. Overall it was good - primarily due to the quality of the production. Provided some nostalgia. However, I didn't feel particularly invested in the story and do not expect to re-watch it for a couple of years. I imagine children would love it, so we probably weren't the target audience.

Sickeningly sweet, shovelhouse niceity. A couple laughs (admittedly) towards the beginning, quickly becomes a grinding, by the numbers, artificial cgi confection. I was deciding whether to fall asleep or walk out. The actor who played Wonka did their best, but even they couldn’t save the film from forgettable, novelty, nostalgia bait.

Off the cuff review sitting in the theater:
Get it for free somehow, watch the first 5 minutes, then watch the original and trust you’ve dodged a bullet.
Otherwise, it failed by all accounts. It’s already set itself up for failure being a modern prequel of a classic. Totally missed the tone, themes, and character acting needed.
Hugh Grant as an oompa-loompa was the best part of the film and that’s even considering he was mocapped and is basically 95% CGI. That’s saying something.
I swear this movie is a literal joke; a SNL skit pitched by Mr Bean funded by Keegan scored by **** and acted by whomever is desperate enough for an appearance and a paycheck.
