The subject matter brings to mind another great teen indie, 2004's brilliant "Saved!," but Yes, God, Yes doesn't skewer "moral" sex ed with the same satirical bite as that much more heightened take on the subject (a highly satisfying needle drop in the closing moments, however, could be interpreted as a quiet nod to the earlier film).
The beauty in Maines’ script, and in the performances, is how perfectly modulated everything is. Maines clearly gets some digs in at the Catholic Church, and Catholic education particularly. It’s really funny.

This film was amazing, it was like the writer knew my own life. Highly recommended for all. A small masterpiece.

A refreshing anomaly: a coming-of-age masturbation comedy about a teenage girl.
While Maine’s witty script is filled with more than enough sequences primed to get laughs out of any audience (with Dyer turning in a charming performance that never goes too broad), the real winners will likely be fellow Catholic school survivors, who will recognize many of the great truths in Yes, God, Yes.
Yes, God, Yes is bound to rankle some conservative Christians of every denomination ... But Dyer’s Alice generates too much rooting interest, and the movie as a whole is too nondenominationally likable, for most other viewers to cast any stones.
Successfully mining the awkward humour of the adolescent experience, Karen Maine’s coming-of-age feature makes the most of a strong central performance from Natalia Dyer.
Yes, God, Yes is too comfortable with itself, too certain in its moral message, while leading Alice through a narrative that is never less than sure. It’s sex comedy as gospel, preaching a placid Sunday afternoon sermon to a congregation of the converted.
Heartfelt, honest, and very nicely delivered by Natalia Dyer. Great stuff from Karen Maine.

I really enjoyed this with the nostalgia factors all in my favour, having been in high school in pretty much the same time with lot's of catholic family. It's funny and endearing and really commits to its comedic tone and beautifully utilizing the hypocrisy of catholic shame. Natalia Dyer gives a great performance. My main gripe is that they played it safe in the climax.

As a coming of age story, is not actually bringing something new but it was actually entertaining.
Also the film is quite short and doesn't waste time on trifles.
What I enjoy the most is the fact that it's a story of sexual awakening that criticizes religious hypocrisy and frankly when a film easily exposes the flaws of an institution that tells you that it's wrong to enjoy something that is completely natural and pleasant, that film will have my support.
Yes, God, Yes is a direct, honest and practical story.
Maybe too sweetened but it wasn't really a problem.
I think it will connect much better and easier with the female audience, but ultimately its message is universal.

Yet another recent movie set in the relatively innocent 80s. A Catholic teenager (Natalia Dyer) discovers **** and sex chats on AOL. This could have led her to a sweetly satirical look at religious sexual strictures and the accompanying hypocracy. It started out that way, but much of the potential to take the comedy to outrageous levels didn’t materialize. The plot got very predictable (and that hunk’s arms were obviously covered in fake hair). While it was sweetish, it scaled back the satire and never achieved its comic potential.

The movie was well done and interesting. "Alice" really did a marvelous job.
The movie really highlighted how utterly ridiculous Christian beliefs are, however. Believing in an invisible wizard in the sky and his son who somehow died for our sins 2000 years before we were born.
..wow. **** is a sin? What if these people had been born in Fallujah?? They would be Muslim, purely by the luck of the draw.
