  • Summary: This genre-hopping eponymous disc is the debut for the duo of guitarist Dan Gullucci (Modest Mouse) and MC Sean Reveron.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 5 out of 7
  2. Negative: 0 out of 7
  1. The album loses a little of its steam toward the end, when too many songs play up the rap side of the equation over the rock, but on the whole A Gun Called Tension is surprisingly balanced and beholden to no preconceptions of how these two styles should mix.
  2. Short, blunt, and skitless, A Gun Called Tension seethes with everything post-aught genre-fucking needs.
  3. Urb

    [An] excellent multi-genre plateau. [May 2005, p.84]
  4. What could have been an awkward marriage of incompatible styles turned into a vibrant, invigorating blast of musical enthusiasm, free of restrictive genre definitions.
  5. While the album fails as a cohesive and sharp sounding endeavor all the way through, it certainly showcases a creative effort that can’t be faulted.
  6. AGCT hits its marks without innovating. While cognizant of the times, the album is unable to move beyond its influences.
  7. Alternative Press

Songs like "Electric Chair" show the promise of this project, but unfortunately, the rest of the disc is fan-only filler. [Apr 2005, p.130]
