ResonanceIt's so immediately pleasing that the new moves in Stairs' repertoire take a while to sink in. [#32, p.57]
-
MojoAn album of joyful, desperate and messy songs, as honest and delicious as any on Pavement's 1992 classic, Slanted And Enchanted. [Sep 2001, p.92]
-
Like early Pavement tracks, PSOI's songs find pop hooks almost in spite of themselves.
-
Not only do Kannberg’s vocals sound more robust than previously, but the whole record has considerably more colour in its cheeks than Malkmus’s own recent solo effort.
-
UncutHumorous, pithy and downright ballsy. [Sep 2001, p.106]
-
Shredding PaperA solid collection of simple pop tunes. [#11]
-
Kannberg has made an album of fine indie pop that few could have expected.
-
His solo debut is frequently as imperfectly perfect as Pavement approaching their best...
-
Alternative PressIncludes everything from Brighten The Corners-sounding pop blasts to comforting acoustic gems to dark rockers. [Nov 2001, p.91]

This is what Pavement would have sounded like if they became the equivalent of Sebadoh, cranking out a version of Slanted & Enchanted each year, turning out records that satisfy listeners that want Pavement without unpredictability, humor, diversity and, yes, mess - without SM Jenkins, that is.
-
Unfortunately, it seems that the only thing he really learned was how to write a Pavement tune, and he's having a little trouble trying to figure out what to do with himself now that Pavement is no more.
-
All This Sounds Gas might not have been such a weak effort if Kannberg's lyrics actually had anything to say, but nonsense prose has never meshed well with lush, jangly alterna-rock.
-
Most of the tracks here could be Pavement, so those looking for a diversion will be disappointed. Those looking for another Pavement record for their collection will be less so, but ultimately this sounds like a hurried release and more of an extension of the past than an indication of the future.
