Sep 29, 2020On All Thoughts Fly, von Hausswolff yearns to express the unspeakable -- that which lies not just beyond words but stands apart from them. She offers a musical authority that can only be fully realized when openly acknowledging and submitting to one's own vulnerability.
-
Sep 29, 2020All Thoughts Fly is undoubtedly a peculiar album, but absolutely one well worth investigation.
-
MojoSep 29, 2020This solo instrumental album feels lighter in gates-of-doom atmosphere than previous work, but even so, whispers and echoes start to bounce off this record's walls, promising revelations at every turn. [Nov 2020, p.86]
-
Sep 29, 2020Unlike her song-based previous albums, All Thoughts Fly is instrumental, performed entirely on pipe organ. Its lush soundscapes find transcendence in the eerie and the sorrowful, much like Sacro Bosco itself.
-
Dec 4, 2020It has elements of traditional classical composition and the post modernity of Phillip Glass and on occasion it does challenge the listener. It might not be for everybody—indeed it might not be an album that you regularly revisit—but it’s certainly an album that's worthy of your attention. You will find yourself marvelling at von Hausswolff’s artistry and complete mastery of her craft.
-
UncutNov 5, 2020Plenty of liturgic rumbling, but it really works when she aims for something greater. [Dec 2020, p.39]
