The effects-heavy guitar constructions of Arrow are the most emotionally intense Noveller material from Lipstate yet, making it easily one of her most expressive and fully formed statements to date.

These are rather beautiful ambient sound worlds, however she created them, full of dread, anticipation, joy and peace. Perhaps it’s best if you can’t see the wires and knobs and plugs that make them possible.

As Arrow progresses, we get a clearer sense of how she's beginning to understand what she seeks. And though we're never exactly sure what it is, her music leads us to a full conclusion.

Arrow is an album that challenges and beguiles the listener with its dark, brooding beauty.

A mid-1970s Tangerine Dream vibe is more apparent than on previous Noveller albums, albeit still further removed from the trappings of rock music per se, and it largely comes off as a soundtrack in waiting for a film in which a hard-up community of 19th century nomads travel slowly across an arid plain. [Aug 2020, p.64]

She manages to make her chosen instrument sound like just about everything it isn't, yet the sense of sonic cohesion and unique identity she possesses never dwindles. [Jul 2020, p.33]

Often you wonder exactly what you're hearing; you just know you haven't heard it before. [Aug 2020, p.87]
