Baptize hits hard early on with a trio of nosebleed section-aimed sonic missiles: the pummeling title cut and its equally unrelenting successors "Save Us" and "Underrated." Therein lies the rub. What follows is no better or worse, just largely the same, with Saller delivering post-hardcore banalities with gusto and the band peppering those surface-level maxims with blazing riffage and fist-pumping gang vocals, ad nauseam.

Baptize is as much a trip through modern day Atreyu cliché as it highlights the best of the group’s more...aged cuts.

Atreyu’s act of streamlining has sanded many of their edges clean off, leading to moments that sound like they’ve been made by anyone but the actual authors.

It's clear Atreyu crave rebirth in the crucible of lifeless arena rock, but with a selection of tracks this dull and inoffensive, they'll probably get their wish.

As a person who recently "re discovered" Atreyu when they were on the Trinity of Tour lineup. I found this album in its entirety. While I findAs a person who recently "re discovered" Atreyu when they were on the Trinity of Tour lineup. I found this album in its entirety. While I find that the music is a bit of a different vibe than previous albums (including some more traditional Atreyu songs, as well as some more poppy/uplifting songs) I find that it works wonderfully. Honestly, this album is great front to back. I listen to it all the way through on repeat. Baptize, Warrior, Underrated and Save Us are some of my favorites. Expand
