No matter how many times she’s labelled ‘the next Grimes’, there’s nought they can do about the fact that this one, well, she’s really one on her own.

Everything about the album is deliberately simple, but with some inspired production choices added to the mix.

The great tracks are incredible and the rest are not too bad, but Being is strong enough as a whole to offer hope that Mozart's Sister is a project still finding its voice, with even better work ahead.

Thompson-Hannant may be on her own with this project, but soon enough she'll e followed by an ever-growing pack of fans thanks to her rewarding efforts on Being. [Sep/Oct 2014, p.103]

Perhaps counterintuitively, Being is most compelling as a pop album when it’s not trying to hook you; the rest is promising, but perhaps could do with a little more dementedness.
  6. The result is joyous electropop with depth--dance beats, '80s-ish synths and Caila's soulful, voluminous vocals fanning out into gorgeous harmonies.

The aerated atmosphere might leave some feeling light-headed, but Thompson-Hannant's unfettered energy is infectious. [Oct 2014, p.115]
