On their comeback record, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy actually make a surprising stab at respectability, once again merging big hooks and big rawk. [8 Jun 2001, p.76]

The album might almost be a study in stretching the limits of silliness, cliche and old-school rock'n'roll unreconstruction... [Jul 2001, p.114]
  3. Whether they can co-exist with today's nu breed is another question entirely, but 'Beyond Good And Evil' just about overcomes its sameyness and provides enough flashes of what made them special in the first place to justify their continued existence.

For the most part, Beyond Good & Evil roots itself between Metallica, nu-metal and the slightly psychedelic ambience of '85's Love: the band's pre-metal apex. [Aug 2001, p.124]
  5. Beyond Good and Evil shakes with vitality.

Wow, is Beyond Good And Evil bad. Thudding, empty albums about nothing, held together with some of the worst guitar solos since late-'80s Lou Reed. [#51, p.90]

The Cult is more then welcome back. The truth is they probably deliver us the best rock album in almost a decade. What an awesome comeback, The Cult is more then welcome back. The truth is they probably deliver us the best rock album in almost a decade. What an awesome comeback, they really have done a great job, weldone guys! The sound is heavier then ever with the power of Electric, the spiritualism and goth of Love and the polish of Sonic Temple. The more you listen to it the more you love it. Fans, don´t worry about the state of today´s rock, here is the stuff you must stick to. Now´s the time for the music listeners (and reviewers) to give the most respectful credit and attention to The Cult, they deserve it!!! Expand
