    It’s a strong album, but it’s not another Forever Changes, whose accomplishments in retrospect were unrepeatable, or even another Four Sail. On the other hand, Lee wasn’t aiming to craft something in that vein.

    Black Beauty is an album that needs to be out in the world, that needs to be celebrated. It doesn’t have to be a new classic in the Love discography. It just needs to be another interesting chapter in the band’s story. It is that and then some.

    Blessed with a raw, punchy sound, however, Black Beauty is far superior, more eclectic and fully-realised [than Reel To Real].
