An interesting but inviting new direction in AFI's sound. Considering that even their early work was very influenced by a darker new wave sound, it's maybe not a surprise to hear this direction. It's unmistakably AFI, and the songs pop with creativity and emotion. Perhaps their most conscious stylistic change since Sing the Sorrow, and the production quality just pops. This is my favorite album of theirs since Decemberunderground. It felt like they were stuck retreading themselves the past few albums and with this one they finally found a new sound. Its probably their most varied sounding record, while still managing to have a cohesive theme throughout.

I think the members of AFI now have so many side project bands that they have no idea what AFI actually is as a band. This record is awful. The music is bland and overproduced and the lyrics sound like they were written by a 15 year old. Sad thing is i actually enjoyed the last record. But Bodies is truly terrible.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I found this album to be incredibly boring and all around disappointing. Aside from some good riffs and some interesting production choices the album just came off as hollow. Expand

Definitely their greatest album since Decemberunderground. It has a lovely 1980's Talk Talk-esque upbeat pop sound to it with elements of their Gothic punk background shining through. Many songs here that will likely get stuck in your head

Ultimately, it feels like too much is crammed in and AFI can't tell if they want to go pop, goth, retro or symphonic. And with something that schizophrenic, it undercuts a lot of what could have been diamonds in the rough.

Bodies is a well put together album that will appease hungry fans, but it's not the injection of life that AFI so desperately needs at this stage of its career.

Bodies is one of the stronger offerings from AFI's late era, stirring both the physical and emotional with urgency and heart.
