    I did enjoy hearing Jetty Bones' cooing voice on "Icicles (Morning Glow)" but other than that there aren't that many songs to phone home about. There aren't even rock ballads a la "Minnesota" and while the closer "Hallmark" tries to mix aggression with toned-down indie licks to somewhat appeal to folks like me, it's just not the impact I expected from the band this time around.

    Breathe is a great album. Not perfect though. Some of it feels a little bit tame. Billy's drums especially seem stripped down. Occasionally,Breathe is a great album. Not perfect though. This band is capable of pretty much anything and this album, at times, seems more basic than their previous releases musically. Lyrically, this album hits hard and will be extremely relatable for years to come. It's a giant step forward in almost every way. A step back in a few ways but still a fantastic album but Every song is worth listening to.… Full Review »

    And if you are a fan of math rock or need an energetic music pill with sad lyrics, then do not miss this album.

The vocals are rough around the edges and feature a little too much screaming/shouting for my taste, but I have to admit it does help raise the energy level. This isn’t music to help you fall asleep! The highlights of the album, Medicine and Vertebrae, are probably also the most accessible, in case you want to try a couple sample problems but not do the whole worksheet.… Full Review »
