Brothers & Sisters sees him build on these long established musical interests but, importantly, also add new elements to the mix to deliver a compelling listen. It comes out of the blocks impressively quickly, with each track building on the former to create a formidable initial run. ... In terms of musical statements it’s hard not to see it as his most vivid and vibrant to date.

Brothers & Sisters may also be the last recorded work of Mason’s friend and recurrent collaborator Martin Duffy – a fine way for him to finish, on an album full of intelligence and love.

On ‘Brothers And Sisters’ he sounds like he feels comfortable being in his skin and writing uplifting music that doesn’t have a massive political message, though one is there. It doesn’t have a massively personal message, though it is there. Instead, he’s written an album for everyone.

All and all, a winning, beats-driven combination of the personal and the universal. [Apr 2023, p.82]

Through it all, Mason's distinctive voice -- a hushed croon belying a hidden depth of thunder -- give his narratives gravitas and the album's production, a joint effort with London's Tev'n, builds an exciting world to match it. It's another solid effort from one of Scotland's finest.

His melodic approach remains minimalist, dependent on hypnotic rhythms and crescendo - there's also a Screamadelica familiarity to "The People Say" and "Let It Go" - but his sloganeering encourages unifying empowerment. [Apr 2023, p.32]

So many hooks and melodies that fleetingly come and go but stay with you and keep you coming back for more. Great production, great variety, great tunes. Probably just trumps Money Minds..... Expand
